Red Sea Shipping Crisis:

Blew a big hole in that evil sea

“Although no ships were damaged in the most recent attack, Cooper emphasized that the persistent threat from the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in an international shipping lane is a significant concern.”

Translation: We warned you to stop or there’d be real consequences. And you ignored us?!? You’re lucky no one got hurt. Don’t do it again or else, ok? We mean it. Really.

I’ve mentioned Col John Boyd on here before here. (the OODA Loop). The book about Boyd, “The Mind of War” mentions William LInd. I started another thread that links to an article by Lind: William Lind on Insurgencies and 4GW

This is an unfortunate time for the US to be doubling down on its addiction to military adventurism. Successive administrations have frittered away a significant amount of treasury, influence and credibility with politically engineered military blunders. The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan is a primary example and adds to the reasons why America’s enemies can smell blood and its allies are reluctant to tag along.

The withdrawal from Afghanistan may have been botched but at least we are out of there, something that had been promised for years. I remember the botched withdrawal from Vietnam, also promised for many years. The trick seems to be not beginning wars as wars are money making machines and difficult to stop even when the results are futile. Until there is a compulsory national service this will continue. Keep in mind the Pentagon has NEVER passed an audit.

UK is not sending more ships to the Red Sea:

Typical.
Prosperity Guardian just about sums it up, guarding prosperity instead of Seafarers.

The hardship of it all:

Another effect of the Read Sea Shipping “crisis”:

Crisis? What crisis?

That would be one way to increase Canada’s population of 17- to 24-year-olds. On the other hand, we have millions of “men of military age” pouring over the southern border with no prospect of employment…

Indian Navy to the rescue:

The Liberian flag, Dubai owned and operated vessel had a connection to India:

The US needs a universal draft for men and women (with equal rights come equal responsibilities) with damn few deferments or legal ways to dodge the draft.

There is a pressing social need for a unifying shared common national service experience among Americans.

The security of the southern border needs to be put under strict military control (it’s a hostile invasion).

Politicians don’t hesitate to send poor people’s sons to fight useless wars with one had tied behind their backs.

But politicians will not send their own daughters to war unless it’s truly necessary for vital US interests.

Sending US troops off to fight should be rare.

Most of all, we need to stop half hearted police actions with half measures and politically correct rules of engagement. If we need to go to war the prime directive must be: whatever it takes to promptly and thoroughly destroy the enemy.

If congress would just take the authority to “wage war” away from the White House again it would be an improvement. Repeal the AUMF and make congress pass a declaration of war instead. Whole lot harder to pad the pockets of the military industrial complex if your constituents hold you and congress personally responsible for sending little Johnny off to fight and die pointlessly.

Congress hasn’t declared war since WWII.

Which is a problem in my opinion.

As the % of veterans fall the wars rise. Chicken hawks find it easy to send others off to fight

Pretty certain I was in Viet Nam because of veterans in Congress. With help from Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, & Nixon. . . The point being, I disagree with your post.

Don’t know if that’s gonna work. Too many sabotage incidents on ships during Viet Nam. And problems in the Army too. . . The trick is to cultivate a “I want to be here” attitude in people. And right now, GEN Z have the reputation of being the worst workers, and most “entitled”. Not something I want in a foxhole.

Correct, and Gen Z has the balls to stand up to the buillshit by employers, unlike the previous few generations, so employers are having to learn this the hard way. No more, “you’re lucky to have a job, shut up and do as you’re told.”

A bit outside the Red Sea:

Maybe more related to US sanctions than the Houthis and the war in Gaza.

Should have turned Iran in to molten glass after the embassy hostages were released. . .Wouldn’t have to deal with their shit now. Can’t wait until they have nukes. Shit. They already have delivery systems. The world will have to deal with them now.
