This is a thread someone started on the AT&T community forum. If you have AT&T and your service sucks in Fourchon, and I know it does, please consider adding your comments to the rant. Be nice to get something equal to third world cell service… Or possibly even better. I can only dream.
Will they ever listen?
I have good service in Fourchon with AT&T, my complaint is with the high bill.
My voice service is fair to middling based on where we are tied up, my data service on my iPhone is horrible.
I think they look at the population map and figure it isn’t worth it. I imagine it says 5. I don’t think they understand the port business, however they should listen to complaints. I’ve called several times. I also use the “mark the spot” app to complain daily
I use the mark the spot app every at I am in port as well.
I’ve never had a problem with ATT service unless I’m tied up in a C-Port shed.
Just curious if you use voice and data? Voice is usually pretty good for me, but the data has been atrocious. Sucks when all I wanna do is listen to some Internet radio to help time pass during a slow watch. Or surf Gcaptain .

98% of my frustration is towards the data side of the service. I pay for a data connect card for my laptop and it is the worst, with the data on the phone a close second. I show good signal… 3-4 bars typically, but can’t get anything in or out except in random bursts. The texts seem to go through most of the time, but once in awhile it gets slow to none.
Curious to know how to find out what tower is what and how to get information on the data services available. I was thinking about contacting the Port Fourchon organization to see if they had any pull. Can’t believe this is only affecting mariners. Thinking the businesses around here would be affected as well.
The 3G service in Fourchon is terrible through ATT which is the reason I switched to Verizon.
I will say though that another Captain on board just upgraded his ATT phone to one that’s capable of 4G and it was a night and day difference. If you’re still using 3G I encourage you to upgrade. You’ll be happy you did.

I use my phone to talk and company furnished Internet to surf on.
I have the iPhone 5, 4G LTE. It’s not worth a crap for data here. Seems to work fine everywhere else
Mention A T & T or TSA in my house and the wife just hangs her head and mumbles something about, “Oh God, here we go again”.
10 year customer of A T & T. Home Phone, Internet, TV, and Cell Phones (5 on the plan). Due to poor cell service, customer service, and management that has their heads so far up their a$$e$ that it would take centuries for them to see the light of day again, we now have Verizon, Dish TV, Charter Internet, and A T & T for the home phone. That’s the best complaint I can give them, take my business elsewhere.
No experience with them in Fourchon, but had to weigh in on the subject…
Was in Fourchon this past week and was getting 550-700kb download on iPhone hotspot, voice service was good.
I too have the iPhone5 but on Verizon’s LTE service which is normally great.
Periodically my service does seem to slow down. I was advised when this happens to switch on airplane mode for a few seconds to allow the phone to reset. Also periodically to go into settings and reset the network settings option. Not the most ideal thing I know but it does seem to help when my iPhone seems to lag or hang up when downloading.
I have an iphone 5 and if I turn LTE off sometimes it works better. Data service in Halliburton slip and CP 1 is terrible. I’m not sure how much they pay attention to their own forums, but I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Usually, a company like that will contact you within a day or so. I think if enough people did that they might take us a little more seriously. I use the BBB whenever some company tries to fuck me over, and I usually get a credit to my account. Takes about 5 min to file on the website.
I got a response from AT&T mobility from my BBB complaint. They couldn’t do anything, so the complaint was forwarded to AT&T Network. They gave me six months discount off my data service ($127) and told me that they have good 3G coverage and 4G HSPA + coverage, which doesn’t amount to much. Will see if Network will do anything.
I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4S to 5S (AT&T) and still have some slow or nonexistent data. But today I did a speed test with LTE OFF and my speed test was way faster. 128 Kbps with LTE on and 3700kbps with LTE off. Someone mentioned this earlier, thought I would test it.
I also filed a complaint with BBB. I encourage all AT&T users to do the same. They need to get some LTE service down here.
I also notice that if I reboot my phone, it briefly allows an increase in download speed. But it is temporary.
Just get Verizon, they’re better.
