Military Sealift Command

It’s crazy how much time has went by and none of us have heard anything. The one guy up here says it’s been 10 weeks and his status hasn’t changed.

Lots of people have heard back. They’ll just not saying anything.

This is week 9 for me, with my application still “under review”. No notices, emails, or phone calls . . . yet

There are lots of people sitting in the pool in Norfolk waiting for ships. The NEO classes are full up with those selected. I don’t know the time frame for anyone else, but I applied last October, and did NEO last week. I am not entry level, nor do I know how bad they need people with my quals. There were lots of entry level people in my NEO class, but again, I have no clue to their time line.

I just had a interview with msc Wednesday hopefully I will have a job real soon with them.

Hey JoeH, thanks for the update and keeping us informed. Was your interview in the morning or afternoon? Was it the same usual 3 questions?

Mine was in the morning I had to re schedule it for the after noon, since I was at work then. The question were not to hard. Hopefully they will give me a call back real soon

Just called the CivMar Support Center to check on an application. Here’s what I have found out:

Submitted on 2-9-15
Currently “Under Review” (Employment is reviewing application for employment)
-“Under Review” status can last 4-6 weeks.

This is of course all pre-interview. Their website states that the process beginning with an interview and ending with Ship Assignment “typically takes 30-90 days.”

This whole process, from submission to ship could very well take six months.

I guess it is just a typical US Government pace. It is frustrating, though, for those that currently have no job and are waiting through this process.

An NEO class started this morning. There is another scheduled April 6th. Keep your hopes up gals/guys. Maybe there’s a class for you in late April or early May.

You submitted 3 weeks after me and you are under review and I’m still only forwarded smh. Are you entry level?

Guys take this in mind. After the interview it could be two weeks later until you get a call and offered employment. Once you accept employment there is an equip security clearance that must be completed within ten days. They will not set up your physical until the SC is completed also you need to have your medical records MMR & TB test & polio if you do not have those records then you can have it done by your doctor or patient first at your own expense. The TB test has to be within 12 months valid. They will set you up for a drug test & psychical I got mine a month later but I’ve heard lots of people said they got there’s two months later. If they find the slightest minor issue on your physical they will flag you on it & you must take care of the issue at your own expense with your doc before they find you fit for hire so that could delay it more trust me I was flagged & it delayed my process. Once found fit for hire you will be given a NEO date they are filling the classes up fast so you could be in the very next class once found fit then you have training in New Jersey if you an SU it will be three weeks & 1 week of training back in Norfolk if you an OS it will be 5-6 weeks of training plus three weeks in Norfolk plus probably a week in the pool so don’t expect to be on a ship two or three months after being hired.

when do they start paying you salary?

You start getting paid your base salary the day you start neo & if you live 50 miles outside of Norfolk you will get s&q pay on top of that

I am not entry level. I am applying for an Officer position.

Samat, what classes does an officer have to take in NJ and how long are you in class?

Exactly what you take is based on what you have current. Some are here 3 weeks, others 6. I met 1 who was shipped out before any training due to need in the fleet. You will be in class 8-9 hrs/day. If no class is scheduled, you still need to report and mill around smartly to “earn” your pay. Some classes spill into the weekeknd too. Lots of contract mariners (union blokes) and the academys do trining here too.

Just got a job offer today now on to the equip an to try to find my vaccine record Anyone in the process of filling out there equip have Problems with there work history It keeps on rejecting my dates butt there accurate, Maybe It’s because of my seasonal job history , I will call them in the morning tomorrow
