Hotel Motel B&B's on the Bayou

Ok, I’m aware of the much Ballyhooed and lucky Chateau on the Bayou, would like input on hotel, motel choices down the bayou for schooling and door knocking.

I will be checking in Sunday night in Houma @ Days Inn $59.00/night before tax.

Will review here during or after stay.

All input welcomed.

Thanks

Boudreaux’ Condeaux!

That’s the best post I’ve seen in awhile !

All joking aside, you should stay at the Chateau. Arrive by 3pm on Sunday and check out Friday morning. If you cannot make it by 7pm on Sunday, then check in on Monday afternoon. As discussed in the Knocking on Doors thread, a newbie can get a lot of extra assistance there. Be super nice. True or false, some people believe that she actually pre-screens her guests for hr department at a certain employer. At the least, she has some influence at some companies

Damn CCaptain, that’s not to far from the truth. I have stayed there a few times myself. That last time I stayed there I left a pair of expensive headphones in my room and when I called back about two hours later they were magically missing. Last time I will stay there. I would 2nd that advice. She has good info and you can use all the help you can get. It’s not much more than you are planning to spend. Consider it. Better to spend a little up front and land a job quicker right?

Harpoon included? I’ll take it.

What about us NOAA non-corpsweenies rank and file wage mariner dirtbags and dirtbaggettes? I feel left out.

MY GOD, MAN. THINK OF THE SEA ANEMONES. HAVE YOU NOT ONE DECENT BONE IN YOUR BODY?

pout

You guys are nuts if you think for one second that your choice of hotel will help you land a job any faster. These companies hire on an as needed basis…do your homework, complete any apps you can get offline before hand, make copies of your credentials, dress and speak professionally, make a list of where you want to work and start at the top of that list even if you drive past a place or two.

Good luck.

By most accounts the lady at the Chateau provides a lot of help to the kids making their first trip to the bayou. Many older guys rave about how she helped them too. It appears from her posts (and comments that some guys make) that she actually talks to some of the personnel offices on a regular basis. The only disadvantage according to google maps is that she is out in the middle of nowhere.

Personally, I stayed at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Galliano — very close to many of the boat companies. It costs two to three times as much, but I can afford it. At my age, I do not need a career counselor. I can see a couple more companies a day by staying close by, instead of 45 minutes away. It also makes it easier to be on the doorstep when they unlock the door in the morning. Sometimes I like to lay down for a few minutes and freshen up while the offices are closed for lunch. Similarly, when I went to Hornbeck I stayed at the closest hotel and was waiting at the door when they opened.

She only knows what she learned here like you can…

The Bayou Inn is $66 a night and a 5 minute drive from ECO in Galliano. Its a little sketchy looking but as hard as I looked I couldn’t find any bugs or dirt.

Rent a minivan with a tv and bring a sleeping bag. Shower at one of the many fine casino/diner/truck stops along the bayou. That way you can be waiting in the parking lot when the company opens.

And enjoy the fine women that frequent those establishments!

More crabs in the parking lot than in da bayou…

Good advice for those on a very limited budget. Plenty of campgrounds too. Some look nice. Bring a tent with good bug screens.

I did that kind of thing years ago, but I do not need to now.

which brings me right back to Boudreaux’ Condeaux…why go to a truck stop to find crabs when you can get all the crabs (and mudbugs and Nutria and Possum and snakes and gators) you can ever want right in your own room! Don’t even have to go outside to find a hearty meal fit for any real Coonass right out of the swamp.

When in Loosiana as dey say…eat like a Kingfish

Stop it you’re making me hungry!
