Knocking on Doors in Louisiana

Just wanted to keep everyone updated on people getting hired, here, in south Louisiana
This past week everyone that stayed at my B&B got hired, again.
No one has broken the record since last November.
One guy was hired with Hornbeck; 1600 ton without DP. Company will train him for DP.
Another was hired at ECO; 1600 ton without DP; will, also, get trained by company for DP
And a third was hired with Kevin Gros Offshore; 1600 ton without DP.
Wishing all of you a very Happy Easter.
If I can be of assistance to you in providing nice affordable accommodations, please email, PM, or call me.
Remember, I do provide a discounted rate of $60/ night for mariners.

Greetings All,
My trip has been successful. I came down from Montana with one scheduled interview and lots of online applications completed. I have spent time in the area (Amelia) in the past, so I knew where some offices were already.
I printed out all of the applications that I could and filled them out ahead of time. I made sure my resume was up to date and that I had plenty of copies on hand. I went with my two good suites because you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression - cliche I know, but it makes you stand out in a crowd!
Staying at the Chateau on the Bayou has worked out well, too. The rate is discounted for mariners, and sure beats a low budget notel! Miss C. has been a great help and source of info on the area.
By the end of the week I had two offers and chose to go with ECO. The other outfit looks great as well. I chose ECO because of all the diverse areas of work that they are involved in, as well as feedback from many of you on the forum.
One thing to prepare for if you are coming down is to have all relevant medical records in hand or available for review. One company wanted the documents about a surgery from years ago, another wanted the current condition of the “repair” evaluated. The Houma Ortho Clinic really stepped up and helped me out with that requirement - which saved me a trip home and back!
Hope the info helps those that are on the hunt!
All the best,

Congratulations on the job!

I agree with you on dressing. I picked up new threads at a Kohls Presidents Day sale last year, and did the same thing.

And Ms Claudette is always a gracious hostess.

Congrats on the jobs fellas and welcome to chouest. great company

It’s been a couple of weeks now, since I updated the news here at my B&B.
I have had guests from France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa in the last 2 weeks.
It’s been a full house most every night.
I did have a couple of mariners amongst the groups who came in search of jobs and got hired.
One got hired at Hornbeck (1600 ton with our DP).
When a guy gets hired at HOS they are sent home for a month or so before they can begin orientaion.
Reason being that they only have orientation once a month.
Another was hired as a 200 ton mate with ECO.
He began orientation last Tuesday and went out on his first shift.
ECO provides orientation once a week beginning on Tuesday.
Another was here while attending prep classes with Capt. Bruce at LAMPI (LE Fletcher) in Houma, just 20 min. away.
This week, I have 2 mariners that checked in yesterday in hopes of getting an AB job.
They went out looking, today.
Hopefully, they will be as successful as all of the other mariners that have stayed at my B&B in the last few months.
If I can be of help to any of you in providing lodging while knocking on doors in Louisiana, please contact me at (985) 537-6773.

Well, both of my guests got hired on as AB’s this week.
Good news, once again.
One was hired with Hornbeck as an AB; who passed the physical and will return for orientation in a few weeks.
The other was hired with ECO as an AB, but had to go home to complete his medical testing.
Had he brought down all of his medical information from the past he would have been in the orientation classes this week.
The guy that got hired with HOS had all of his medical information with him.
You have to get passed the physical to start the job, so if you have had past surgeries or any other issues like asthma, etc. you have to show that everything is now OK.
Bring documentation with you or you will have to see a dr. here.
There are lots of jobs here; only you can make it happen soon!!!
Hornbeck is advertising in the local paper everyday for positions: captains, engineers, QMEDS’s AB’s, Security coordinators, QHS &E Cooridinators, Port engineers, ROV Superintendent, etc…
Broussard Brothers is advertising for Tug Boat Captains inland and near coastal w/ towing endorsement.
Smith Marine Towing is looking for offshore tug boat captains
Triple S Marine is looking for 100 ton captains w/ towing endorsement.
Hoping this information can help you in making decisions for yourself.
Again, I do provide discounted rates of $60/night for mariners in search of jobs or attending school at LAMPI (LE Fletcher) in Houma or Lafourche Merchant Marine in Raceland
If I can help you in anyway, please email me at: claudettelp@charter.net, PM, or call me at (985) 537-6773.
Sincerely,

News from "A Chateau on the Bayou B&B"
Two weeks ago, I had a guest that was offered a job at Harvey Gulf; 1600 ton Oceans, Capt., DP, etc.
He was, also, offered another job with the drillships and took that one.
He is out at sea, now.
Another guy came this week and was offered an AB job with Edison Chouest Offshore.
Unfortunately, his blood pressure was not under control and has to have a stress test done before they will hire him…
Remember, you have to make it happen.
There are jobs out here, if you want them.
Best wishes to all of you.

Please note that my B&B is located just 15-20 min. from LE FLetcher (LAMPI) in Houma, 5 min. from Lafourche Merchant Marine in Raceland, and 30 min. from Houston Marine in Kenner.
If you are upgrading your license and need to take classes at any of these schools, my B&B can provide nice, affordable lodging and a “home away from home” setting.

I can attest to the fine hospitality at the Chateau on the Bayou. Claudette is very knowledgeable about the employers here. I got hired on at chouest after staying here. I also stay here when taking classes at Chouest. It is a very nice B&B at a good price for mariners.

I’ll be staying there in a few weeks, while I take some classes at fletcher. I’m looking forward to my stay after all the good things I’ve read on here.

Read this second.

Update from "A Chateau on the Bayou B&B"
2 mariners got jobs this week, so far.
One was hired as a wiper at ECO on Monday.
He started orientation today.
Another was hired, today, as an OS at LA Carrier in Galliano.
One could of had an AB job at Hornbeck, had he had the RFPNW.
Another, still looking for 3rd mate.
Hoping tomorow that these guys find the right job for themselves.
Best regards,

One of my captains is in fletcher tryn to get his 500 ton license

One of the guys staying here this week, looking for a 3rd mate unlimited job, went to HOS, yesterday.
Unfortuantely, they were not able to help him, but walked him over to the white board that indicated that they were looking for 15 AB’s with RFPNW.
Hope this helps someone in need of an AB job.

Any fresh 3rd who is too good to take a AB spot in order to get a foot in the door isn’t worth having.

Yes I was there on Tuesday looking for OS and that’s what they told me… Looking for QMED’s also.

I’d say that they gave him a very strong hint that he needed to start as an AB, but instead of thanking them for the opportunity he just gave them the finger.
