OSG is usually looking for mates. If you want to work deep sea give them a call.

I have paid for training out of pocket in the past. With that said, I am so against it. I am not sure if it made a difference of me getting a job or not. If you are wanting to get into the DP business I would try to get on as a mate somewhere that offers that training as part of their benefits. Try all the Drilling companies. Transocean, Ensco, Seadrill, Pride, Maersk, Stena. Then try all of the OSV companies. I would go that route and try to have the company absorb the cost of the DP training. Most of these guys have either received grants or have huge tax breaks for providing this training. More than likely the TOAR will not be of any value. Once I have over 5 years without any towing days I will lose my towing endorsement that I had to jump through so many hoops to get. I hate to hear you are being laid off. Good Luck to you. Things are not great, but there are a lot of rigs being built right now that have to be crewed by people…experienced in DP or not those spots will be filled.
I paid for my DP myself, it allowed me to transfer to my company’s OSV division to get my 30, and 180 days. They send their engineers to DP so they can maintain/service the equipment in house. Very few supply companies pay for it anymore, there are enough DPO’s looking for jobs. Harvey Gulf is looking for 6000 ton licenses for their new builds coming out this year. They also need 1600 licenses with towing endorsements right now. I can’t speak of the drilling companies. I beleive GOL(Gulf Offshore Logistics) is looking for wheelhouse personel.
Good Luck
