What Do They Say now?

Ask the Afghans and Iraqis how that worked out for them. Plus remember that Iran is MUCH larger than either just to get an idea of the likelihood of any ‘regime change’ in western terms. The most likely regime change will be from one oppressive despotic regime to another just like most of the middle east. But of course why have world’s biggest military times 5 if you can’t blow off a little steam once in awhile? Taxpayers will pick up the tab, it’s beyond their pay grade anyway. Just own stock in US military contractors and go along for the ride.

There are some good stock picks here with some drone manufacturers and Rocket Lab. Up till now I have confined myself to utilities.

One thing we can be sure this unprovoked war is generating, is more people willing to take up the mantle of waging terrorist acts against the U.S. and Israel. As tragic as “collateral damage” is, it often becomes doubly tragic in that it radicalizes those impacted such that they are desperate for some sort of “justice” or “revenge” to something so tragic and one sided. Think back to how American citizens felt after 9/11. “An eye for an eye” and all that, and when one side feels they have no true recourse against a force so much richer, so much more powerful, and so technologically advanced in violence, those at a disadvantage resort to acts of desperate destruction, see Palestine.

If we had only put $400 million on a pallet and flown it to Iran! Oh, but wait…

not a war just a few days of bombing and as Iran wants everyone in the middle east to be involved US can walk away and it will keep running…

at the moment iran has bombed most of the middle east so zero friends left

There were enough cases of war crimes and “wrong doing” on both sides in that war to keep the courts in Den Haag busy for years.

I was there too, in coastal trade for USAid a few months in 1967 and for Shell in 1968, carrying JP4 on the Mekong.
I learnt one thing; don’t believe a word of what is said on “US forces network (From the Delta to the DMZ)”, VoA, or by “Vietnam Rose”.
We listened to BBC World Service for a more balanced reporting.

You mean being a (Master) Mariner doesn’t count for anything?: Chartered Master Mariner

Based on reliable sources I’m sure. (M-E Forum?)

“Previous harm”? Are you referring to “previous harm” that Iran have inflicted on US servicemen in the Middle East when US supported Saddam during the Iran-Iraq War? (Before he became the “bad guy” who threatened USA with “weapons of mass destruction”)

Harm caused to Persians after CIA overtru the democratically elected government in 1953 probably doesn’t count?

PS: I don’t mean that you personally bear any blame for any of the above. Hope you sleep well.

Apologies for being long-winded here. We’ve stumbled into my wheelhouse, and I know so little about so much that it’s a treat to be able to meaningfully post rather than throw bombs in attempts at humor.

It’s important to not try to spin history by witholding critical background info…These are talking points often repeated by people who want to sound like they know the history, but are enormously biased.

In ‘53 Mossedegh had dissolved the Majles, replaced the army leadership and Supreme Court and closed newspapers by the time the Shah used his constitutional authority to fire him.

It should be noted that the British AND the Soviets had helped manage an earlier coup in 1941, deposing the Shah but allowing him to abdicate in favor to the Shah’s son, who had agreed to allow supply lines be formed in Iran for support of the USSR against Germany, in exchange for the UK to allow for British assets to be nationalized to form Iran’s state oil company (This was Operation Countenance).

The British, WITH CIA ASSISTANCE, attempted to undo their 1941 efforts in 1953, geopolitics and all. The CIA was not the primary foreign actor, which is pretty interesting.

We should be honest about these things. My own biases blind me all the damn time, but I’m not alone in that.

For reasons of personal bias, the role of the British crown as the primary outside actor for the ‘41-’53 interregnum seems to have been glossed over in this thread, and the supporting role of the CIA in the UK’s meddling in Iran has been wrongly retconned into the CIA assuming primacy of place given the US’s leadership in post WWII geopolitics. Further, the role of the USSR as the foundation of the coup of ‘79 and the resultant massive forced Iranian disaspora is ignored altogther. The formation of the Islamic Republic was absolutely not an organic event.

Richard Barakat, who was an optical physicist at Harvard, and whose family had emigrated to the US, discussed the events and history at the Harvard Club in 1996 or 1997, (can’t remember which) but it drew a crowd of cold war-era figures and turned into a series of discussions.

Hey Robby, wasn’t the article was an opinion piece? Yeah. Thought so. And all opinion pieces are biased. . Even CNN, MSNOW, BBC, AL JEEZERA, NEWSNATION, NEWSMAX, OAN. . .

But here is the GD Truth: As I said previously, the NVA would routinely put AA guns next to hospitals & schools during “my war”. And in this case, the building was in close proximity to the IRGC barracks. Bad stuff happens when missiles and bullets are flying around. Truly unfortunate.

Well said. Especially the part about “tribalism”. While I can disagree with others here, I religiously refrain from insulting. I will admit to “hard questions”, that can make some uncomfortable, in the end I will attest to “agreeing to disagree”. And sometimes wishing to share an adult beverage with them. [but there are “the others” LOL. Cheers, mate.

had a typo Buggs. Was supposed to read “grievous”, not previous. . .spell check got me. And it was “personal” not a metaphor for the MEast.

Yeah, Rose, VoA, and US forces network. The best propaganda.

I am officially declaring a note of protest.!!!.

Have been listening to VOA since 1978 and they “brainwashed me “ :winking_face_with_tongue: on the radio to such an extent that i wanted to nuke singlehandedly the whole middle east after 911 and was furious at Bush he did not do it within the first 24hrs seeng hordes of ewoks dancing on the streets with joy .

They tought me some english with “words and their stories” , “ slangman” “ space and man “ , science in the news, “ and some good jazz with Willis Conover “ jazz hour” , listened live to first trials of space shuttle trips to orbit as such scietific/technological achievements were furiously suppressed by commies with jamming.

Still have on drives the most interesting programs in special english

My day always started with “ This is the voice of America reflecting the views of the US governmet” :winking_face_with_tongue: . Believe me You could not find a more staunchest & faithfull ally in the world at that time .

Somehow though after maturing a little bit more  I can not believe nowadays that it was me :winking_face_with_tongue:

Cheers

I bow to your detailed historical explanation. Some I knew and some I’ll check.
PS: I didn’t expect that my short version would get quit as detailed scrutiny. :innocent:

PPS: A banner saying “This topic have been solved” pops up everytime I make a new post.
No, it has NOT BEEN SOLVED!! People are being killed every few minutes. Most of them are totally innocent and have no skin is this game, being played by persons that is NOT at risk of being killed or maimed.

Innocent seafarers of various nationalities are among the dead and wounded. That should be condemned by fellow seafarers on this forum.

What do you say to this then?:

What was wrong 50-60 years ago is STILL wrong today.

BTW; How many hospitals have been hit and destroyed by Israeli bombing in Gaza?

Dangggg… those Iranian hospitals can’t catch a break. First they’re over ran by injuried & dead protesters. Then the Iranian regime sends there thugs there to beat & intimidate the doctors & nurses for treating the protesters. And now we’re blowing them up. I hope they have telehealth in Iran because there’s no way I’d be hanging around a hospital.

Sorry, internet is down and the bombs are falling willy nilly on hospitals, schools and apartment blocks all over the Middle East.
You and me both are better off not being there for this one.

After the dust settles there will be a reckoning to divide blame for this debacle.
PS: No price for guessing who will blame everybody else for any mistakes and wrongdoing.

Dear Dr.Bugge.

Some quackademiacks here have already explained to you that it IS COLLATERAL damage and you keep on moaning.:winking_face_with_tongue:

We have a local saying about Kali mentality. Kali was a Nigro servant refered nowadays as a person of color. So his Boss a boy -Stas aged 16 son of an engineer building Suez Canal wanted to teach Kali some lessons/rules on morality.

So Stas asked Kali what a bad deed is meaning sin.

Kali was smart and answered quickly- a bad deed is when somebody steals Kali’s COW.

Brilliant said Stas. Now tell me what a good deed is?

Kali answered even faster then previously , a good deed is when Kali steals sb’s COW.

Hence the saying we have “ Kali mentality/morality.

Trust i do not have to explain anything else to a Man of your intelligence and CLASS.

Cheers
