We're back! Bug Request

We are back!! With a new and much updated gCaptain forum!

There were a number of problems with the upgrade but, luckily, rzuber stepped in to fix the errors!!

I’m too tired right now to post about the upgrades (you can find the basic info <a href=“http://www.vbulletin.com/”>HERE</a> and <a href=“http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?145-vBulletin-4”>HERE</a>) but… they will come soon so stby.

In the meantime, if you find any errors or problems with the new forum software… please reply to this thread with a description of the problem.

Cheers,
John

First Impression: the upgrade looks great John

No it’s not compatible with the new version, but I have send a message to the script writer to get an update. Instead there is a new “Reputation” feature. You can add to a users reputation by clicking the star located under a post (only visible if you are logged in). Here’s a screenshot:

Is the site clock time wrong?

Was I the only one going through some serious withdrawals? Site looks good, John, thanks for the constant improvement mind-set! Is there a way to select the last page in a thread from the ‘New Posts’ page?
Is the site clock time wrong?
The clock is always wrong, a problem the host can’t seem to fix… but I’ll ask them again.

Fran: I don’t think so but I’ll take a look.

Good to see everything’s up and running!
Is the site clock time wrong?
not so much wrong…but about how it works…once you set the zone…try refreshing the current page to get an updated time when needed??

No, Capt Fran, you weren’t the only one!

Thanks for all the work, John & Mike!

Great to have you back. I was suffering from gcaptain withdrawl!

Actually, there is a way to get to the last post. It is a little arrow button to the right of the name of the last person to comment.

Amen! I’m liking the new features very much.

I should have used the new “Multi-Qoute” feature :

Multi-Quote
The much-requested multi-quote feature allows users to tag multiple posts that they wish to respond to by clicking a small button on each post. Once the user clicks the reply button, each tagged post is quoted.

To increase usability, by default, only posts within the current thread are automatically quoted. If you wish to quote posts in other threads with multi-quote, you simply need to click a link on the reply page, and the text of those posts will be added without a reload.

From the vBulleting site John linked to… good stuff!

Sailors usually hate change, but this looks great, John & Mike. Nicely done!
Is there a way to select the last page in a thread from the ‘New Posts’ page?
Last page, no. I don’t think so anyway. There is always the last post button from the forum homepage, any category, new posts page etc that will take you to the last post (see image). Same as old forum in this case.

Capt. Fran,
I am not for sure this is what you are referring too but I read all the post with the most recent first and did so with the previous version. I set it up in general settings under my CP “Control Panel”.
Here is what the FAQ says about it.

Can I change the order of posts?
You have a choice over how you view threads. When you’re in a thread, look at the top bar. On the right hand side you’ll see ‘Display Mode’. Click on this and it lets you change how posts are ordered.
You have three choices:
Linear Mode - posts are displayed chronologically, usually from oldest to newest. Posts are shown in a flat mode so that many posts can be viewed simultaneously. It is possible to change the ordering by changing your preferences in the User CP
Threaded Mode - a tree is shown along with every post. This shows you the relationship each post has to the others. It’s easy to see who responded to whom. Only one post is shown at a time. By clicking on a single post in the post tree, the page will show that post and all posts made in response to it.
Hybrid Mode - This is a mixture of the linear and threaded modes. The post tree is displayed as in the threaded mode, but many posts are shown at the same time as in the linear modes.

John,
I am not sure that it is a bug but I noticed when I multi-quoted, replied to the thread, navigated to other pages and came back to the same thread where I originally used the mult-quote feature that the post were still selected for multi-quote. I had to select the multi-quote icon again on each post to remove the check mark.

I was unable to find the “USER CP” button, although I remember it was there before the change. After a bit of screwing around, you can change the settings by following the convoluted procedure:

 1. Click on “FAQ” on the black bar near the top of this page, left side
 2. In the Board FAQ section, click on “Settings and Profile Changes”
 3. In the Settings and Profile Features, click on “Other Settings and Options”
 4. In Other Settings and Options, go down to the first sentence that is NOT in bold, and click on “Edit Option” at the end of the one line sentence.

You will now be able to change the order of the posts, change the time zone, etc.

If there is an easier way, please post it!
