Tug Captain used as Blind Mule from Mexico to U.S

Friend of mine is a Captain in San Diego, thought he’d save money renting apartment in Tijuana and driving across the border each day. All went well for a year then on way to work recently Border Police nail him with drug package secured under his truck.

He freaks out. Almost has a heart attack. The guy is straighter than anyone I know and it was obvious to the police. They interrogated him for 8 hours then let him go. They said its been happening a lot. They look around border towns for U.S. license plates that go back and forth each day. They follow the guy on both sides of the border for a few days. Then they put the drugs on your car and let you drive it across unknowing. On the U.S. side another car follows you to work and takes the package.

After they let him go he never went back to his apartment. Abandoned his stuff, quit his job he had for 12 years and was hired by Edison Choest to be a tug Captain in Brazil. Training in the GOM this week.

Did he do that to stay away from the druglords whose stuff he lost and if so did you just out him?

Absolutely quit Mexico for personal safety. They obviously already know who he is. Not enough drugs to warrant an international manhunt and murder. They just write it off and put another package on another unsuspecting blind mule… The more dangerous threat would not have been the drug lord, it would have been the poor security guard in his apartment building who took the bribe (had no choice?) and allowed the thugs to plant the package.

That’s insane! Good thing he made it out clean. There are all kinds of ridiculous smuggling techniques that are uncovered long after they have been put into practice. Going to Baja this summer, I’ll be peek under my truck before reentry.

Imagine the USCG finding that package on him instead of the Border Police?

They never would have let him go after 8 hours. The USCG would have destroyed this guy.

USCG INSPECTOR: What do you mean you were not aware of these drugs? We expect licensed officers to be fully aware at all times while operating any vehicle. So which is it: Did you know about the drugs or were you negligent in your situational awareness.

Lol, they can get you.
