Capt. Eric Hilton.

<O:p(I also got one from “Capt Allen Harry”, address’ and phone numbers deleted))<O:p</O:p

Got a similar answer to a classified last week.
It first seems U.K. based but then the sentences don’t seem to be correct.
At any rate I struck delete and made it history !
Woked for a company from India once and the message just reminds me of their style of English.
Hope everyone sees it as faked.

brits never say “United Kingdom”, they just say uk, ONLY.

Or this:
“I will be waiting to hear from you soonest”

A brit would say something like:
Thanks to hear from you soonest

or,
many thanks for your soonest reply…

I will like to know… (its not english)
This is just an indian playing god knows what!

He reminds me of my DPA - seems to me they went on same english classes!

This is just one example of many 419 type scams. If you were to reply they would ask for all kinds of personal information and also ask for upfront fees, usually by Western Union, often for worker immigrant visa or some such. This would be processed through a fictitious office of the UK government. They come up every day or two on some of the crewing sites I use. Dockwalk magazine forum has more info if you are interested. As for me, I just delete now as well.

They should be prosecuted. Why the law enforcement agencies don’t do something about it? (state or federal)

Unfortunately they are often based in Africa or Asia and the route that the money runs is complex. Sadly they are outside US law. There is a group called Fraudinternational that is chasing down the worst of them but really it is like herding cats.

I did hear about one UK mariner who tracked down a “Contact” in Amsterdam who was trying to collect the money. Don’t know what happened though.

So the only way to detect them (at least) is their pigeon english, and administrative fees they are asking for.

Not much else to do about it.

I mark them as “phishing scam” from the link provided on HotMail.

What a place to post an ad…

They must have been attracted by the word “scam”

Usually the scams come from West Africa from places like Nigeria, hence the dodgy english.
Fake job offers are typical of scammers, as you can tell from this article about <a href=“http://www.thatsnonsense.com/index.php?location=fake_job”>fake job offers.</a>

Also avoid any email with the subject header <a href=“http://www.thatsnonsense.com/index.php?location=view&id=473&keywords=Subj:%20Urgent%20Response”>Urgent Response</a>

I’d imagine that this would either be a phishing scam or 419 fraud. (i.e. theyd ask for bank details OR require you to pay for some certificate before you can start you “job”)

This is email from:
job_sagacruise@yahoo.co.uk , adress from which they have just sent me a job confirmation:

quote
In view of the above fact, you have been shortlisted to join our noble team.
Attached is our employment form for your perusal.Furthermore, you are advised to fill the form and send a copy to us and to British on line immigration for your employment work visa documentation protocols:
Email: ukimmigrantdept@infobritish.info
unqoute

Later they were asking for remmitance of 250 gbp to some acct, in advance for “administration expenses”
Bullshit!

BOTH ADRESSES IN EXAMPLE ARE FALSE, ENDING WITH: infobritish.info AND yahoo.co.uk

Emails for UK government organisations end in gov.uk

It’s a scam, don’t send them anything

FROM JWSPAMSPY/ QOUTE:
If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The so-called “419” scam (aka “Nigeria scam” or “West African” scam) is a type of fraud named after the article of the Nigerian criminal code under which it is prosecuted. Here is a typical example.

Typically, victims of this scam are promised a portion of a large sum of money sitting in a bank account or in a deposit box at a security company, simply for providing a bank account to transfer the money into or for posing as a relative of a deceased person. Another very common variant promises a lottery prize from an internet lottery.

If recipients fall for the scam they are made to part with thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars in “bribes” for local officials, prepayments for courier services or deposits for accounts at (fake) banks before the “partners” disappear without trace. Read more about this type of scam here.

jwSpamSpy, our spam filter for MS Windows 2000 and XP ™, recognizes and filters almost all “419” spam emails. Over 17,000 such emails that were sent to us have been analyzed and archived. jwSpamSpy filters about 200 more “419” mails from our mailboxes per day.

I once played with these scammers a little joke. Told them to contact me immediately by phone at my toll-free number.
(202) 324-3000

If they called, I’m sure their heart missed a beat.
It’s the FBI’s telepehne number.

Check out the website http://www.419eater.com

They were featured in our local street paper “New Times” here in South Florida. It’s a group of people whose hobby is baiting these scammers. Not sure where they get all there free time, but sometimes they string the scammers along for months, getting them to spend money. If nothing else, it’s good for a laugh. Like bluejay giving them the FBI number. Also, there’s good tips on what to look out for.

When you get an suspicious email: just copy it in google search machine. Then you will see what pops up!
Thats where I got the list above!

i got an email about a job offer which i want to post as a scam, sounded very fishy and then looked it up and found a same website with diferent company name.
