Returning To CMA

Hey All,

I am going to be returning to CMA this fall after a 5 year hiatus. I was there for 2003-2004. I have heard that there have been a lot of changes since then (I.E. Companies vs Divisions), could someone enlighten me about what to expect next school year when I return?

I would be happy to let you know.
You’ve heard right we have a new captain and he is taking a new approach to CMA.

  1. Get ready for 0730 formation!
  2. Freshmen cadets live on the golden bear their first year
  3. All cadets under 24, unmarried, not veterans, or don’t have kids MUST live on campus
  4. They are increasing the cost of housing.
  5. There are 6 divisions total made up of engineers deckys and nonlicense. Three divisions makes one company (blue=1-3, gold=4-6)
  6. On a lighter note we have a new sim builiding which blows all others out of the water. (2 360 degree sims+1 FMB sim, and a number of smaller 4 screen radar/ecdis simulators)
  7. They have also built a new residence hall to house the increasing number of students on campus
  8. Our rugby team is actually really good (top ten in the nation)
  9. Tougher standards on uniforms and conduct
  10. Freshmen are not allowed to have cars on campus

Those are some of the big ones I can think of.
However in good CMA spirit some things have not changed,

  1. There are a lot of hard working intelligent faculty doing their best to give us the best education possible (they make it all worth it)
  2. The food still is terrible and with the increased number of students next year I imagine it will get worse.
  3. The administration does its best to sqeeze every last penny out of the students (in their defese the state is not helping)
  4. The administration still prioritizes their earnings over the education of students, class sizes ore groing and the faculty is diminishing. Yet admin. will still purchase a brand new bear statue to put by the engineering building and pay 15k for a smoke shack!
  5. The food still sucks (I just thought I’d reiderate that)

Despite it all though the degree and the oppurtunities it presents make the years at CMA bearable and in the end completly worth it.

See you next year!

Thanks Merchant Marine,

Look forward to seeing you next year too.

I did change over the last time I was there and made it to 3/c however I’m not sure what I will be when I return. Records is currently reviewing my transcripts from when I was at a different school who knows how much they’ll actually give me in transfer credits.

The good news is I am 24, and will own a house in Glencove when I return to CMA so that should be helpful for getting off campus housing. I’ve already talked to Josie a little bit about off campus housing, so we’ll see what happens with the request.

When compared to the old division setup who goes where? I was 2D when I was there the in 03-04 what would that compare to now?

Hey,
You’d probably be in division 2, not much different. Glad to hear your over 24 your one the lucky ones to get off campus.
Good luck!

I just got my off campus approval notification today!

Man I got out of that place right in time.

Thats the way it is in Castine, maybe those are Eisenhardt’s idea.

Shoot if that’s the case I’m getting married.
