Few Questions on Campus Life

Hello, sorry to keep posting here but I have a few questions.
I know CMA isn’t as strict as other maritime academies, but is there a closed campus policy? Or can you come and go as you please( as long as your living on campus ) i live pretty close and would enjoy seeing friends and family if somethings going on.

What are the Freshman dorms like compared to McAlester Hall? They seemed kinda small for two people but it’s not that big of a deal.

Can you work on the TS vessels during summer for extra $$? I saw some cadets needle gunning the T-boats.

Should I even bother getting a laptop? Will any MT classes require them or benefit at all from One?

Also, a lot of reviews of this school are pretty negative when campus/social life is observed, but i feel like these people were expecting an experience as mainstream colleges are portrayed. Is it THAT bad? Im talking about college review websites. The only rule that surprised me was the no alcohol at all rule. I mean, c’mon thats ridiculous if it’s a weekend or some thing.

You can come and go as you want, the rooms when I was there sucked ex-san quintin prison beds ha ha. Things have changed a lot though everything is really nice now. There is a ton of booze on campus at least when I was there you just have to keep it on the down low. It was not that bad at all. The food sucked and I hear its not much better but there is a ton of cheap good Mexican burrito trucks to eat from.

Hell yeah. The taco truck near the muffler shop on Sonoma rocked. Also Pepes served up some good Mexican. Just off Redwood was cheap Chinese called Hop Hings. I got out in 02 and the food was rediculus. We had to go off campus to get a deent meal. I have seen the food now and it is great. These new cadets have it easy

As far as campus life goes, yes come and go. Rooms are small but you dont spend that much time in them. Rooms on the Bear are even smaller. Alcohol is not allowed but kept out of site out of mind… If you dont like it go to Chico they party like rock stars up there. In fact we used to take weekend trips up there once in while. Campus use to be pretty dead on weekends as everyone was off doing something. If you had watch and had to stay it was dead but a good chance to catch up on studying. Not sure if you smoke but it seems everyone use to smoke at CMA.

one thing that no one has answered yet is the computer question. It’s not mandatory, but extremely helpful. Most teachers post their power points online. so, some print it out, but a lot will bring their laptops and follow along on them.

First off you go to school to make money and have a job right? All my friends that went to CMA with me make at least 6 figures. Second you are going to school to be a sailor there is going to be booze and sailors always find whores. Third yeah you need a computer when you go out on the tsbs you plan on watching porn in the lounge?

Admissions Question:

I read for MT you can submit a resume of leadership and nautical experience when you are applying, but i have not been able to find ANY info on how I’m supposed to send it to them. I don’t know if i do it in the CSU application, or if i email or fax it straight to the school. My HS counselor has no idea either.
Has anyone submitted a resume like this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
