[QUOTE=cajaya;174699]Yes, maybe the GoM should have indoctrination like the military does, accept for instead of having everyone take these courses, they should put the newly hired women in them only. The course material should be something along the lines of this:
[I]Please ladies, remember the offshore workers, especially if they are from southern states, are used to being the big hancho king of the house, they are not really used to being around any women that are self sufficient or that have any power at all. Usually, when they say the magic words: “I work offshore”, they are used to having women drop their panties and swoon over them (remember, this is not their fault…this is just the only way they are used to women behaving). If you are not interested in them, at least pretend that you are willing to entertain the idea, this is because their ginormous backwards hick egos are very fragile, so you want to be very careful with the delicate balance of gently letting them down, but assuring them it is not because you don’t think they are God’s greatest gift to women. If anything, say it is because you are married, or that you like women. Also, try not to fix anything, this will really upset the balance on board and make the crew unhappy. If you absolutely MUST fix something, try to do it at night, in the dark when no one is watching, and be absolutely sure no ones knows about it. Remember, this is only as a last resort because you are no supposed to be doing anything accept for giggling and praising them in the first place.
Also: try to not dress too provocatively, that means no tight fitting clothes, no jeans, absolutely as little as possible skin showing, that includes forearms.
Another option is go to work dressed like this. They will think you are a terrorist and be scared to go near you at all.

[I]This is a good way too because there will also be no woman bodily parts showing (including forearms). If you decide to go this route, make sure your abaya is not too tight, as this will be much invitation for bad behavior and will show that you have mad morals as a woman
Another option is to get married. The only reason women are allowed in the first place, is to be the companions of men, and it is encouraged that all good women get married like they are supposed to do. Actually, women should be under the representation of a man, either a father or a spouse.
If you refuse to get married, it is absolutely imperative that you say you are already married and buy a wedding ring, even if you state in a simple and matter of fact way the logical reasons behind your decision, nothing will be good enough unless you are lesbian or taken already. “A woman does not like me and does not think I am God’s greatest gift to women” does not compute in the southern backwards hick mindset.

You really miss the point. No one is saying you have to stroke egos (or anything else). It’s called being personable and not alienating someone you have to work with. Women and men get hit on at work, school, bars and grocery stores for that matter. Most people (normal ones anyway) have figured out how to be polite when turning someone down. The “fixing things at night” really is bothersome. What possesses you to go mess with stuff you have been specifically told to NOT touch? Seriously… there may be a good reason why you shouldn’t and despite the fact that you THINK you know everything, you probably really don’t. Just cause you “can” do something… doesn’t mean you always should. Knew someone worked in the nuclear field… were an engineer and visiting a nuke unit and they flipped a breaker to “reset” an alarm… I mean… nuke engineer should know how right? BUT it wasn’t their job and it was a very bad thing to do. They were just trying to “help out” but didn’t follow the right protocol. Same with you… you are the new guy… you do what your supervisor says… and when you finish ALL those tasks… and you see something else that you could work on you effing ask your supervisor if you can do it. If they say no (for whatever reason they might have… that they don’t need to tell you)… then you should ask them what you should do “next”. That’s what it means to be at your level. Maybe the anger you saw when you decided to do a class on Tap and Die was actually their irritation that you hadn’t completed the x number of tasks you WERE asked to do? Look, it’s great that you have all that knowledge and that you want to share it… just bubbling up out of you… but you forgot your place in the hierarchy… and THAT caused you problems. It’s not about their egos… it’s about YOU learning to take direction and be part of the team. They do not want you ad-libbing in the engine room.
Sorry for the somewhat double post… we all make mistakes… some bigger than others.
