One more STCW question

Hi,

I am trying to find out what steps to take if I need to renew my STCW 95 certs. I am sailing as an Eto, and as such am unlicensed. I was informed some time ago that “Since you do not hold an STCW issued by the US Coast Guard, you can carry your discharges with your Basic Safety Training certificates to show that you have the appropriate sailing time and that will be considered your renewal for the BST courses”.

Does this statement still apply, or is there something else I need to do.

Thank you,

M.Cook

It does, until you renew the MMC. At that time,. send in your certificates and proof of sea time and BST will be added to your MMC.

It’s not that simple. There is quite a bit of training required for ETO, and assessments. It will take time to meet all the requirements. The full details are in NVIC 23-14 and also for Electro-Technical Rating in NVIC 24-14.
