Odyssea Marine

Hello,
does anyone have any experience with this company? they are looking at this time and I wanted to see if any one has worked with them or is working with them at this time.
thanks in advance…
Tom

their towing group is the former North Bank Towing…North Bank Towing wasn’t “all that”…haven’t heard anything lately…that may be a good thing!!

Aren’t these the guys with the treasure hunting show on TV?

Odyssea has some pretty nice mini supply boats in the 150 to 180 foot range. Pretty nice for 100 ton boats…some may be bigger. Known a couple guys that worked for them and they liked it well enough. You definately could do ALOT worse IMO. Good luck.

I worked for them for a while. I started when it was Lytal ent. When the old man died it was sold to North Bank and got the new name. They where all right in that they had decent boats and the pay was not bottom of the scale, nor top either. In fact I can’t really fault them. They introduced ISM, brought the boats right up to spec and generally did me OK. I often wished I had stayed instead of going travelling and having fun. The fleet is way bigger now and it still looks good.

I’m thinking of applying again when I get done with this current job in a couple of months.

I started at Odyssea right at the switch from Lytal to Odyssea Jan 06. I was hired as a relief Captain working 2 week hitches. At the time it was very disorganized with crew changes happening any time of the day or night. Then they purchased AMT and put there people in charge of marine operation and things got much better. In fact it was too organized to need a relief captain working a shift different then everybody else. They offered me a spot but with a new baby at home I passed on 28/14. I made 270 day in a mate slot and would not hesitate to go back if I could get even time.

I just quit/fired from northbank loved that job crew etc but office staff bunch bs they were trying fuck me on my seatime. She type person tells u sky is pink don’t ask her to look again it is pink or green whatever she says. I worked there over 180 days with pay stubs etc but coast guard said need letter sea time pay stubs wouldn’t work, Got into it with her said i was going eave when we got back we were doing 60 day hitch and she was like you can take your shit and leave now so don’t give notice if you going to leave. Left me stranded in middle of nowhere in Maine. You bust your ass for them I didn’t mind but when I ask for little thing like sea time and she says computer doesn’t lie you have 43 days etc etc and everyone there hates office ppl some say it some afraid… But anyways few days ago I get letter sea time correct sea-time after I left. No letter of apology etc no saying sorry computer was wrong etc. But enough about that boats are nice and crew is good actually miss that company lol. Long story short if you don’t ask for anything from office you will be good lol.

So James, did you end up getting your AB Special?

Yep I’m an unemployed AB special now but at least I got it lol. If they didn’t want pay me ab pay cause things were slow I would have understood. Just wish they would have let me get it then when things picked back up they could have gave me my raise. I paid a lot money for classes physical drug test etc just didn’t want have do it again only good for year the classes. I know I could have been cheap took it at young memorial however the classes they had always conflicted with my schedule.

Thanks for the information, this forum is awesome… i will let you know after I talk to them.

I currently work for odyssea on the defender. 193 foot supply boat. what are they hiring for? there is a rumor we are adding to the fleet so I’m curious. it is a good company. crew changes happen regular. boats are kept up well. I have no major complaints.
Mike

I have been talking to Steve Kennedy in the Offshore towing division. I am an Engineer so I know that they are looking for those… as far as other positions I have not a clue. He did say that they are trying to add two boats to their division.

Looks like it’s been a couple years since someone added updated info on this company. Who has the juice on Odyssea? Pay, benefits, hiring etc etc.

any new info on the pay for a 1600 ton master with basic DP?

I don’t know much about their Offshore side of the business, but every time I have been into Morgan City over the past year none of their tugs look like they have moved or have crews aboard.

I think it’s in the $700’s

Their OSV’s are always working.

You should write a letter to this individual, and send a copy to corporate, requesting your sea service, and inform them of your last problems in getting your time.

Keep copies of all correspondence and contact the local MSO, and tell them about the problem you are having getting your sea service. I’m pretty sure it is against the law to withhold your sea time.

Let us know how you make out.

Office folks don’t give a rats ass about us. Even if they are super nice and do a half decent job, they won’t hesitate to throw you under the bus. Sometimes it helps to grease the wheels when it comes to paperwork like sea service or DP letters from previous employers.
