Abdon callais or odyssea

I am trying to decide what company would be better to work for. I used the search funcition but all the info was old. If there is anyone who works with either one please let me know the pros and cons. Thanks.

Well Callais is always hiring and it ain’t cause they’re always building new boats. If that tells you anything.

That is kind of what I was wondering, it seems they can’t get enough captains. I had a friend who worked there and hated every minute of it. On the other hand I have another friend who works there now and loves it.

I’m in the same situation been talking to both companies any one have good information on these two companies

Stop going to dead end shit hole companies. Go big and upgrade! These bigger companies are much better in the long haul.

It is really cool that you have a big license and all that, but that is not going to happen to me overnight. The company I work for is stacking boats so I would like to hear from someone that might have some real info!

What license do you hold ? How much experience ? DPO ?

just because the info is old doesn’t mean it’s out of date. Boat companies are like glaciers change happens VERY VERY slowly, if at all.

I work for Odyssea and like it. Not the best company I’m sure not the worst. Decent ins. Pay capts travel o work. The benefit of Odyssea over callais is we have bigger boats and the office is sending some o us to upgrade classes. Rumor has it more bigger boats in the works. New builds. I vote for Odyssea.

I have about 14 years as a captain in the industry, all on crewboats. I do have my basic DP. I have always liked running crewboats, I like the hands on boat handling that you get from running a crewboat. Now like alot of us, I am getting older and the thought of getting my ass kicked every winter is getting old. This is why I am looking at companys with supplyboats that are under a 100 tons. I plan to upgrade to a 500 ton, but that is not going to happen overnight. I could go back to my old company but there are some bad signs that they are going under, so it is time to make a move.

With ACO all the boats are under 100 tons. With Odyssea, they have larger boats, if that helps.

I work for Odyssea. I like it for the most part. Is it perfect? No. But I don’t believe there is a perfect company out there. Pay decent, capts get travel pay to work. Insurance is ok but i have my wife’s as she is a nurse. Good builds with boats larger than 100 ton and new builds supposed to be getting underway soon.

Callais is trying to get some issues under control. Until they do, I cannot recommend them.

They never will as long as the same people are running the show.

Don’t leave us in suspense. What sort of issues?

Cannot comment further at this time, other than to say that coldduck is correct.

How do they pay compared to the big companies?

Wheel house can get into the mid $400’s.

Engineers around $180.

When I had a 100 ton I worked for both of them .if your looking for money go to abdon Callais . I still have friend there they make about 525 as master on the bigger OSV’ s with a 100 ton. they aren’t the best to work for ,the environment is always hostile . It’s seems that all the people that work in the office including the carry all drives are vessel managers . If they find out that you are upgrading they will fire you! They pay every Friday I think that the only reason they keep people is because the amount they pay for a 100 ton ,so people tend to put up with the crap because of it . I did work with some Great guy but I hated everyday I worked for them . Odyssea marine was great from the first day .the office people are really good people ,at the time the as master I was making 425 a day .they have grant programs to help out with schooling and they pay for your flight to work, airport pick up and hotel. If they would pay me what I make and had big specialty type vessels I would work for them again ! Both companies have new boats and old one’s also loads back stabbers your never gonna get away from that .

saw one post saying odyssea is 28/14- does anyone know if they have any equal time schedules… thank you.
