Starwood screws(The tan self screwing ones are awesome) , by GripRite ,no predrilling. Little pricey but helps us old/young folks big time. Lowes or Home Depot. Haven’t got to that slider screen yet, gonna go with Black bear anti doodle screen. Front is done, bought the screen for the back yesterday. Just forgot the beer. Love my battery powered Dewalts, especially at the junkyard looking for parts.
Glad you asked. Power washed half a small roof in half a day. Factoring in a month of procrastination, it averages out to 5 roof tiles per day.
Good for you, that ladder is a bitch.
No ladder required on this one as it’s accessible via an adjacent deck. It’s pretty high though so tripping or slipping and going over the side would put a dent in the schedule.
If you google " wet and forget" you will see what I use. The 2 litre container fits on the hose and it has a jet setting that goes up to 8 metres in the air. You can cover 100 square metres in about 5 minutes, no ladder required. Sit back and let the rain do the work.
It is none of the things of getting old. The sense of balance is not what it once was and I sure won’t bounce like I used to.
Recently redid one of my decks on OBX, used treated wood and the tan self drilling screws. The green ones I used years ago did not hold up. Two old timers (one was myself). Saved a lot of time with the Dewalt battery rigs. 30 year old roof reshingled by local outfit. Supposedly 125 mph shingles, gets to that I’m fucked anyway. So far, so good. The screens are doing well.
Not catching the chipmunks that dug a hole along the foundation of my house. But I did trap this here skunk though.
BTW, if anybody wants a free skunk to tame as a pet let me know, it’s all yours. You’ll have to come pick it up. It comes with a free cage/trap too.
I used a similar cage to get squirrels out of my second deck. Sorry, Lee Shore, dropped them off in CH in a “Nature area”. No animals were injured but got them gone. Then plugged up the gaps in my underpinning.
I’d probably perform open heart surgery if I had to & if I could find video instructions on YouTube. But I didn’t want any part in wrangling this skunk, don’t trust YouTube that much & paid a professional $125 to come pick it up for disposal. But watching him, it did seem pretty easy. If I catch another I’ll dispose of it myself. Too bad I don’t have any enemies to have a good place to drop it off.
Got 4 of them (squirrels not skunks) outa there using peanut butter bait. They were wrestling/playing underneath my living room floor, heard them in the early A.M… Had no enemies, but a decent place miles away to let them go. Hoping they didn’t get loose in my vehicle during transport, they were kinda pissed. Murder squirrels came to mind.
Nice glass.
Years ago I had two feral cats in a shed and I trapped them in a cage. At the time we were in suburbia so shooting them wasn’t an option. I remembered a wildlife ranger saying that if he wanted to destroy a house he would toss a feral cat in the house rather than a hand grenade.
In picking up the cage one bit off the tip of the index finger of the heavy leather work gloves that I was wearing without touching my finger.
I dumped the whole cage in a large black garbage bag with a piece of line secured the bag opening to the car exhaust. The cats went to the great sandbox in the sky without a struggle and so quickly it surprised me. Their eyes were still open.
I didn’t kill the squirrels, they were relocated. Although my ancestors had a good recipe for squirrel and dumplings, Don’t think they had a recipe for feral cats. They were expert marksmen none the less if said cats messed with their egg laying chickens. Gonna get to that back slider screen soon.
Squirrels are said to be viciously territorial. When someone mentions trapping them and releasing them somewhere else, I envision them trying to get back in a squirrel version of the cheesy 1970’s move “The Warriors.” (This version was better)
Totally agree with that on the territorial thing. Took me about a week to get all of them. I dropped them off near Lee Shore’s back yard, appx 4- 5 miles or so away. They haven’t been back since. Some new ones have showed up scurrying on the roof, but can’t get in. I don’t want to cut down the tree that produces massive amounts of acorns. Me being a nature lover and all.
Squirrels…rats with furry tails have caused me a lot of problems at my house. Neighbors got all upset because I shot one on my roof gnawing on my attic vent. Even though it was an unicorporated neighborhood not in any city limits they called the police. The police were nice enough and understanding but said the neighbors would probably call them back if I killed another one even in season and they had better things to do. So I suspended my homicidal tendencies and decided to scare them away. The rodents loved the bird seeds in my bird feeder so I added peanuts. They’d drop the peanuts on the ground where I staked some tannerite out. A CO2 pellet close enough will set off tannerite. Didn’t kill them but they performed some Olympic quality acrobatics and eventually stopped coming around.
I share your disdain for the squirrel but this gave me some small solace for all the times I had to fix the bird feeder.
Have “Squirrelbuster” brand feeders. Drives them nuts trying to get in.
