I think there are many of us who have been saying they are all crooked for a very long time. It is no secret that as an institution they are worthless bastards.
The current bunch of right wing worthless bastards are taking great delight in dividing the nation. They benefit from chaos and their cult leader thrives on it.
It is time to dump the whole system and go with a parliamentary style of government whereby there really is representative government rather than buyer takes all.
Remember what Franklin warned about our republic - “if you can keep it.” We have watched the loss of our republic for a long time, the rate of loss has recently gone hypersonic.
You are on to something there @Steamer But dumping the whole thing? I dunno. What would work though, is a third-party (center/center-right) to come in, occupy the middle, and set the extremists adrift. That would create an environment where concensus or coalition building would be more obligatory.
Also, it looks like they found a way to make a big bill work. Have to see what the House does with it.
If it has a single dime for the cruise industry that is not restricted to helping taxpaying American employees only, I hope it is blocked and Congress tells the public exactly why it was blocked.
The reason the system doesn’t work is because YOU don’t want it to work. (I’m looking at all of you).
When was the last last time you demanded your legislators seek compromise? When was the last time you got up and shouted for them to reach consensus as soon as possible? When was the last time you voted out your senator because he wasn’t amenable enough to the other side, or too partisan?
Every time you demand that your legislators fight for your side, and not give in, every time you demand they not compromise, and fight tooth and nail for what YOU want, you guarantee turmoil and impasse. Because, guess what–everyone wants their legislator that way.
If you train dogs to fight, and throw them in a pit, what do you think they’re going to do? And then you get bit and blame them.
Have you noticed that the contact part of every (?) representative’s website restricts comments to those in his/her district? They can and do take cash from any and every source but only a relative handful have the ability to reach them otherwise.
Let’s ban campaign contributions in cash or kind from anyone who cannot vote for or against them. That must include corporations and PACs of all species.
From what I’ve seen deepening the political divide is a deliberate tactic. Question is Cui bono, who benefits?
Most people today think of traditional propaganda as pushing a particular point of view. But that’s not how it’s used today in Putin’s Russia.
Putin does not necessarily push the idea that his side is good and the other side is bad. Instead he acknowledges that his side is corrupt but the other side is corrupt as well and ultimately only he can be trusted.
This is the purpose of what Steve Bannon calls flooding the zone with bullshit. It’s a tactic used in Russia, in an environment where nobody including the media can be relied upon only a strong leader can be trusted.

Our side isn’t the one wishing death on their political opponents, isn’t beating people who have red hats on in the streets, isn’t attempting to assassinate congressmen, and doesn’t use the vast majority of the mainstream media as a propaganda tool.
Since only about 25-30% in the USA are republican or democrat respectively that leaves at least 40% sick of both of them and independent. Therefore independents are the majority but the news organizations seem to only want to talk about the 2 party system and ignore the independent thinkers that refuse to join sides.
It’s applicable due to your mention of AOC and whether she deserves season’s greeting (and even more of my hard earned money) or not. Although she hasn’t quite been dumb enough to come out and say it out loud for the record (that I can find), do you have any doubt in your mind that she believes illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote in US elections? If so, please defend that position.
