No way I’m signing that deal' with 'Green New Deal stuff

I have no idea and neither does anyone else. As mentioned, opening the economy (or filling churches) too early would be disastrous on multiple fronts. If his “team” adamantly advises against it and he advocates for it anyway, well, nobody to blame but himself for that.

It’s 100% up to McConnell to call for a vote. That’s what the Leader does. And like I said, not gonna happen. Also, any changes need to go back to the House for a vote. Both Chambers must vote on the same bill.

so you don’t think taking the shit out of the bill and passing something quickly without a bunch of politicly moved fat is a good idea? Maybe you’re part of the problem. The green agenda can wait.

And yes we have come together as a nation for a common goal in the distant past.

Of course…do you think he will do that without consulting with Trump first?? As mentioned, he knows what the President will do with every bill he sends up especially one with this level of impact and visibility.

Once again, of course…that’s how all the Pelosi fillers came into the conversation.

@miek, I misunderstood you. I thought you meant on more broad, big picture terms as opposed to this case in particular. If you read my posts, I think you’ll find that

might well be my motto especially in this case.

Pelosi fillers. Slush fund offsets.
Tomato tomaahto.

Here’s some interesting side news. Ford Motor Co. is up 25% today. Why? It is believed they will be getting some ventilator money. Those are going to come in handy.

So for you, oversight on the spending of $500B directly related to COVID-19 relief is equivalent to all the left wing BS that the Dems have tried to tie to this bill…got it.

This gets to the heart of my original question actually. For me, the fact that you can equate those is absolutely absurd. My question is do more swing voters agree with me or with you? Once again…we’ll see

Not just for me. For all of the principals as well. Those are mostly throw away items for negotiation purposes.

Quite a good look for the Dems at this point in time when the whole economy and employment in particular are in freefall.

Delinquent tenant to landlord: “I don’t have the money for my rent yet because the Dems haven’t figured out if it’s really vital to have the airlines report emissions for every flight yet or not”

Yawn. Partisan noise only at this point. I don’t really engage on the partisan side. Remember though, the slush fund was first and a non-starter. Blame who you want, but I doubt if November will make you happy.

Now that’s funny…I’ll take your word for it because partisan noise seems to be your specialty.

That’s called ad hominem, but I’ll take your word for it that you don’t know the difference.

Rhetoric is not your strong suit.

  1. chronological fact. Where did the slush fund come from and when did it happen?

  2. arguable I suppose, but most experts see it that way. Gerrymandering, games with SCOTUS etc.

  3. Paraphrasing McConnell there. He’s been burned before when he worked a bill through and Trump vetoed it out of left field.

  4. crazy bill?? Sort of using language you could relate to. It refers to the House bill? Problem?

No partisanship there. Nor fallacies. Just facts and a little analysis.

more like ad hominem(+) as my distaste is directed to both the person AND his/her position.

Even in your rebuttal post, you show your partisan noise by referencing the $500B relief program as a ‘slush fund’.

As far as rhetoric not being my strong suit, I take that as a complement. No need for (quoting Oxford) ‘the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques’ to show the reason the badly needed COVID-19 bill isn’t yet signed into law. Simple common sense is all that’s required. Already had one of your ilk look that up on another topic.

That’ll be a cold day in hell…

Believe it or not but everyone loved that bill. The Democrats can demonize the Republicans to their base. The Republicans and President Trump can demonize the Democrats to their base. Everyone got good press about how the other side is destroying America. This will be a fundraising bonanza for both parties not to mention clickbait and advertising revenue for the online and broadcast shit stirrers.

Make no mistake: This bill was exactly what all sides wanted their plebeius to see.

In a few days the real bill will come out full of pork for everyone. It will get passed and signed. All sides will claim righteous victory for getting their way and vanquishing their foes. A happy ending for everyone!

(That’s how the sausage gets made. Take a deep breath. Don’t let them play you. They’re ALL manipulative crooks.)

Very possible especially with a need for 60 votes…lot of visibility on this one though…we’ll see what the sausage looks like in the end.

If you guys were actually paying attention to what was going on instead of arguing over false information, this thread could have been a lot shorter. You kept referring to green new deal and other non-virus related items in the “the bill” that the the Senate Dems were blocking. But that was in the House bill, which is not the one that the Senate has been negotiating to include increased oversight of the so-called corporate slush fund.

Furthermore the Senate has said they are close to an agreement (as of midnight), which if passed with significant bipartisan support (actually likely in this case), the House Speaker (yes, Pelosi who has actually disagreed with the Green new deal quite publicly) said she will set aside the House bill and attempt to pass the Senate bill as is.

Anyone paying attention to the “HR-5717” bill they are trying to pass ? Nope…nothing to see here… just keep worrying about the virus… :joy:
