I just sent in all my documentation for my AB to the Boston REC. It should have been delivered today, maybe tomorrow at the latest. Any idea on the latest time frame to get my AB back from the NMC?
What makes you think it should be delivered today or tomorrow?
My license was in hand about a week after submitting the paperwork.
Because I got delivery confirmation so I can check it’s travel, it left Maine last night and it’s only going to Boston. USPS priority mail gets from where I live to Boston in about a day maybe two, and I sent it yesterday. In hand in a week would be great, Thanks.
Trying to guess that is as easy as picking powerball numbers. Been pretty quick lately but you are dealing with the government. Good luck.
My latest application was received in Mandeville on the 9th. It took them until the 12th to send it to West Virgina. I’m still waiting for them to receive it.
Once you get your application number you can track it online. Last year my check cleared 5 days before the REC acknowledged receiving it.

If your application is complete and accepted by the REC, you will get auto-generated e-mails as your application moves through the system. When I renewed last year, REC Boston sent my application to NMC the same day they received it. After that, it will depend on whether you have any safety/security or medical issues, and whether you qualify for what you applied for.
I renewed in early Feb, it was 11 working days from submission until I had it in hand, straight renewal though, no upgrades or additions.
REC Boston is quick, always has been one of the best RECs in the country. I took my 3AE test on a Monday and received my license on that same Friday. I wouldn’t worry too much about them. The NMC for a while had been really slow, but I think now that people are getting more used to dealing with them, and what they want, they have sped up their process quite a bit.
Thanks guys!
I received an email today that said my application cleared medical etc and is now just waiting for an evaluator. The website says it’s still in transit.
My experience is that the web site is slow to update status information.
The website only updates at 7am each day. So if you get an email at noon, that won’t be reflected until the next morning.
which is simply crazy in this modern age!
Yea it’s pretty ridiculous. But if you call the NMC they’re pretty helpful - I had to “provide more info” and instead of waiting for the letter I called, they told me what I needed, and I had it submitted before I even got the letter in the mail.
I did the same thing too, calling is the best option I think.
update… USPS website said it was delivered yesterday, but no word(email) from the REC today, maybe monday.
I wish they would email the request for information as well as send a letter in the mail. I specifically requested that and they agreed, but it never happened.
Relax. Check the website when you get up in the morning (after 0700), and then don’t check it again until the next day. You’ll go crazy trying to figure out where your app is and who’s seen it.
Sent application for OIM/ Barge Supervisor on the 14th to REC, cleared security and shipped to NMC the 16th, in transit on the 19th, in medical on the 20th…
Update: sent info to REC Boston on the 14th of March and got my AB Special in the mail from NMC today April 4th. So about three weeks.
