MSC unlicenced doesn’t wear uniforms, per se. Deck dept wears blue jeans and blue collared shirts. They particularly prefer chambray. I see in their propaganda brochures that they are also all wearing blue poopy suits. Officers wear khackies.
SU required to have khaki pants and white t-shirts.
well in neo today was told of a few things and apparently somebody has been running credit in my name…yall need to square that stuff away before applying…headin home tommorow, embarrased, tail between my legs, thorughly pissed, and a nice lil black mark on my name.
Thats why they sent you home? They didn’t know of the credit deal before sending you to neo ? Thought that was part of the back ground check. What is neo like? Class, hotel,…?
from what im guessing is that it isnt run but when u get here, i was advised to get a credit check and then found somethings i had nothing to do with/known, well i resigned so i can have a chance after i clean this stuff up and hopefully reapply. the class is good nothing too demanding just keep ur credit good and nose clean, and bring EVERYTHING they ask ready to go. the hotel isnt bad, plenty of other civmars to chat with, and decent rooms, internet service is a bit bad charged in room or free in the lobby. elevators were posessed let u off on floors not selected.
I’m not quite sure why you quit. Just because someone tried to obtain credit in your name or did they succeed in destroying your credit? Did they tell you they were going to let you go? This is disturbing since I will be quitting a 56k job if hired. This would really sux if I got there and they decided not to hire me for whatever reason… Then what? Jobless… Not a label I want with a wife, child, and debt. Sorry to hear about that bro. What position did you get hired for?
well it was either i go before security with nondisclosed credit info(never will be hired again) allow them to fire me(never be hired again) or resign fix my credit and come back later, and with about 5 cards i cant account for other than identity theft, it was just best to resign, i was to be a deck o/s about 4 months down the tubes

That sux man, I really hope everything works out for you!
Hey
Im an old salt and just married an Icelandic woman. Now while waiting for her to get a green card (2 YEARS WAIT) Im thinking about going back to sea. Been out of the business for a few years. Im currently working so no big hurry to make the jump but is anyone out there hiring or is it all froze up? thought about MSC but I find the whole “base pay + other pay” a bit scary. I like daily wages so I know what Im coming home to. any help out there? Im an unlimited seaman with tankerman PIC DL barges and all the necessaries including TWIC. Not dying to get into tanking, didnt have much training and probably forgot most of it anyway… but I love to work the deck and wheelhouse. I live in Maine so Alaska isnt probably gonna be interested in me. any ideas?
Check with Hornbeck Offshore (Covington LA) 985 727 2000… I hear they are starting to look for hands to bring out the stacked vessels and for the new vessels next year
Hello
I am a recent hire with MSC. I have completed the physical and am waiting on results. I am an electrician and have worked on all kinds of ships and am very familiar with all types of ship systems. I have a few areas of interest that I would like some help with.
I have read posts where 2nd electricians are said only to change light bulbs. As an experienced and motivated electrician who is not afraid to work what are the opportunities for advancement as an electrician. Is there a timeline involved for moving up? Is there a need to bring equipment back up to manufacturers standards or is everyone happy with creaking by as long as the work of the ship gets done?
As far as ship assignments go I think at this time I would be happy with a ship where I got overtime and that pulled into Norfolk Va a couple times each year as I live here. I have been working at the naval base here and have seen a couple of MSC ships that have been here for several weeks now. When a ship is in a port for extended periods like that is it all 40 hours or is there OT available. How about during yard availabilities. Also when it comes time to talk to a some one at NEO about assignments are there things that should or not be said? Does it help at all to talk to them or as a new guy do I get the worst job out there?
I am interested in a few things about life on board. I understand that there is internet available but 2 way communication is not allowed such as skype or IM. Does that include voice over internet like vonage? Are there other options for internet that work on board like verizon anywhere or something like that? And cell phones any reco0mmendations for those?
It it hard to recall the time line. It was about 2 to 3 weeks after my application was accepted by the HR people. I was a long time getting past that point due to my military records being poor quality
Nice! Maybe ill see you in NEO. I got selected for OS. Did my physical week half ago so waiting on them for what the next step is which I believe is NEO.
We might have had our physical the same day. I am waiting for the results. I am not aware of any problems but I guess you never know. I expect we will get a call maybe 2 weeks before NEO with a date to report. I have let my supervisor know but not an exact date. Fortunately if it doesn’t work out I will still have my job.
I was offered a job at MSC for 2nd Electrician a couple weeks ago. eQip and drug test have been completed. Just waiting on a call to schedule my physical. I hope to get a NEO date late March/early April. I am just trying to take things a day at a time…
