Math test for the SIU

I was wondering if anyone has taken the math test that is required for step 1 of the application process for the SIU unlicensed apprentice program? A friend of mine told me to study the pre algebra section at math.com. Is this correct and all I need to study? Any information from anyone who went through this and can tell me anything would be greatly appreciated.

I know of several that have gone through the program. You only have to read, write and cipher at the 9th grade level. Good luck!

I believe this is an oxymoron.

Based on the lat few SIU rejects Ive had, if you can spell you name almost correct, and ae able to tie your shoes, you should have no problem passing.

Believe me the only math they will need to know is how to add. I have had guys who can barley spell their name, but never mess up on adding up the OT sheet

I just took the SIU exam. It was easy for the most part. Know long division, all fraction operations, multiplication by hand, convert fractions to decimals and basic geometry IE what is the area of the rectangle or odd shapes. No calculator and lots of fractions.

How long before you hear about step 2? That’s the step I believe where you have to send them copies of your passport, TWIC, and your MMC. Did you get your MMC? How was that? I have my TWIC and passport so I will be going for my MMC after I do the app. i won’t be doing it until late October.

It did not take but a few days for them to contact me about step 2 after I passed the exam. It was graded the same day I took it, and they reported the results that afternoon. I have had my documents since May, so all I had to do for step 2 was go to the dentist. All my documents came quick, 3-4 weeks for the TWIC, MMC and Passport. Just don’t get in any rush and provide all the information required; it should go smooth. Good luck.
