Lifebuoy with self-igniting lights and lifeline?

Recently, I was confused by the Life Saving Appliance.

On my sevice ship, I find there are 2 “Lifebuoy with self-igniting light with self-activating smoke signal and lifeline” on bridge and 2 “Lifebuoy with self-igniting lights and lifeline(30m)” on ship’s fore.

Does this arrangement comply with SOLAS III/7?

(Note: there have arranged 4 “Lifebuoy with self-igniting lights and lifeline(30m)” maybe for MSC.1/Circ.1331 on embarkation place.)

I had consult the classification society and he said it was no problem. But I still have hesitation.

Generaly, If Class and flag state say it’s okay, its okay untill they say otherwise.

But you do need a lighted life ring staged near a pilot boarding arrangement, whether its a combo or just a ladder.

What is the flag of the vessel? I was on a US flagged ship that was dinged during a USCG inspection for having combination smoke/light signals on several liferings. They were SOLAS approved but not USCG approved. At the time there were no USCG approved combination smoke/light so we had to have class amend our safety plan and we swapped out to a different signal, I can’t remember if it was light or smoke.

This might be of some assistance
Marine Lifebuoy requirement as per SOLAS (marineteacher.com)

Just curious- do you know where that’s written down?

It’s on the IMO poster, but specifically in SOLAS v/23 - 7.2
