Heavy lift transport

Efficiency and flexibility is key to success:

Having the right “tools”, experience and knowledge helps, though.

Slight overhang here:

I don’t know it the Eagle has just discharged a Jack-up rig, or has prepared cribbing for loading of one:

PS> That boat alongside remind me of a situation in Mumbai many years ago, trying to board a HLV at anchor, with a mat supported rig on deck;
The rather large but underpowered wooden launch had problem getting alongside due to the overhang. After a couple of failed approaches the Sarang pulled away with the wise comment; “Wait for low water, better”

Drydocks World has been working on a conversion project for Boskalis for the past year, transforming a ship into the BOKALIFT 2 crane vessel. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the successful completion of the BOKALIFT 2. This will help to increase the production of renewable energy. The BOKALIFT 2 in the meantime arrived in Singapore for the crane installation and testing

They certainly made some calculations of stability…
…but seen like this, it looks frightening.

I bet there was more than a passing interest paid to weather routing.

Yes there are, but all calculations are based on “worst case” according to Metocean studiers for the time of year and area.
I.e. the principle of; “hope for the best but prepare for the worst”-

PS> As MWS I have refused to sign “Certificate of Approval” when the voyage plan was relying too much on Weather Routing for winter passage around Cape of Good Hope, overriding the above principle.

The Tai An Kou is now in Ulsteinvik, Norway:

Preparing to carry large cargo: This 20-year-old Chinese cargo boat, Tai An Kou, will transport Olympic Pegasus to its new owners in China. On Monday, it was allready in Lyngnesvika - while it waited for the heavy load.

From smp.no today:(Google Translation)

Today the offshore vessel Olympic Pegasus was loaded on the ship that will take her to China:
