As a native born and raised Mississippian who came into this world at a hospital named after Nathan Bedford Forrest by way of a Mother whom was born in 1945, graduated from Univ of Alabama with her 2nd master’s degree in 1973 and never once attended a class in nearly 22 years of southern public education with a black person…

What amazes me is that you fail to admit that oilfield and related maritime industry wage explosion is a recent thing which joe boss’s employees have zero control over.

Here’s the synopsis of the deep south which is pretty accurate. I personally find it silly that the south still reenacts battles from a war they lost while fighting for Joe Boss’s “rights”. Most of the soldiers were poor ass folks fighting for rich folks so the rich could continue to be rich and Joe Boss the rest of them.The dumber and less educated they can keep them the easier they are to control which explains some of the resistance to funding education in the deep south to this day.

Take a look at the high school graduate level, bachelor degrees and advanced degrees by state. You may notice a trend where the Gulf states have lower graduation rates and a lower percent of degrees than the rest of the country. I am not saying they are stupid down in the Gulf just less educated.

History shows the plantation system in the south began with land grants made by the King of England to politically connected people. The plantation owners were a small minority but ruled the south. Many in the south did not want to break with England but they did not like sharing their wealth with anyone whether by tax or wage. They still don’t. The Scots and Irish came to North America to keep from starving and made excellent tradesmen and cannon fodder. In your spare time find for us a land grant made to some Scotsman or Irishman in the south. As you said just because history was written doesn’t mean its true.

Lots of people in A’murca do not like their rights and freedoms taken away from them. Exactly what is being taken is a little unclear, unless you watch Fox news in which case it is explained clearly. Well, at least clearly enough to suit the purpose.
I have lived and worked for years in The Deep South, and have all the guns I want.
Yet even today, it is still a little unclear to me how much “Freedom” there is when $12 / hr for a First Class welder or fitter is considered in any way “freedom.”
That person is free to do everything it is possible to do on perhaps $375 a week. And of course $12 / hr is a pretty well paid blue collar job in AL,MS,FL,LA & TX.
So take your freedom and enjoy every bit of it while shaking fists at unions and those that actually want to do a bit better for everyone.
I’m happy Joe Boss is there investing and promoting industry and employing people. Make no mistake, business of A’murca is business.
But it is time people wake up and see the truth for themselves and their families, and set aside the tripe and propaganda that is being spouted as God’s own truth nowadays.

Another Asinine statement from you. 1st taking control of you life and life’s ambitions is WITHIN the person, not some piece of paper saying you went to school. Just an example is anyone with a H.S. diploma can become a U/L Master. (This is a maritime forum so I will use that as an example.)
2nd, what is with you and FOX NEWS? I don’t watch it no more than any other media outlet. I do watch HLN, FOX NEWS and CNN. I mostly watch Morning Joe though. Why do so many Dem’s think Fox news is the devil??? I personally don’t like them for the way they treated Ron Paul but that is just me. No news outlet is going to sway my vote but I don’t hate them, just as I don’t hate CNN or MSNBC.
3rd, I also think some unions are needed… Not to take care of me as a worker though. I’m a believer in the pilots union (airplane type) and bus driver union and anything where someone is moving large amount of passengers. Not so much for auto workers, steel workers, bread makers, or stewardess unions and such. I’m even for some regulation against truck drivers driving a lot of hours. I’m not for the truck drivers union though.

There are lots of very nice people in the South. People that are even nice to this old Yankee. There are lots of smart people in the South. There are lots of well educated people in the South.
Also, there are lots of people in the South that came from somewhere else, probably about 1/3rd of them. I cannot get over the change in southern demographics in the last 40 years.
That said, the South does have more than its share of “lack of educational attainment”, “swamp people” and shitheads that need to tell every Yankee they meet about how they are going to win the next Civil War.
Too many people from the North also have unnecessary and inappropriate bad attitudes about people from the South.
Why can’t we just let this unproductive horseshit go?
