The England Manager could afford to leave behind Phil Foden, Cole Palmer Trent Alexander Arnold and even Kylie Walker
The Norwegian National Team was given a warm welcome home by the King and abt. 157K people in Oslo:

– It was almost 2-1, said King Harald when he greeted Ståle Solbakken, referring to the controversial annulment of Torbjørn Heggem’s goal against England.
When they step out from the castle:
They got to see the huge crowd of people filling the parade street (Karl Johan’s Gate) to greet them:

They didn’t win the Cup, but to get to the Quarter final is almost as good for a small nation like Norway.
Good luck to the 4 teams that remains in the fight for ultimate glory.

(In Norwegian. No paywall)
PS: Now most of the Norwegian fans will probably be routing for England. ![]()
All my comments were meant as banter and I think you took them as so.
Just in case of any doubt I think it was a brilliant achievement for Norway to get to a World Cup Quarter Final.
My adopted home England are still in it but I still can’t see anyone stopping France.
But in a one off game anything is possible.
Having said that there is still the possibility that both of them might not be in aThe Final.
To me a very boring Spain may just cause France to go to sleep and beat them.
I am not a conspiracy theorist but I can’t pretend I have not heard all the conspiracy theories about Argentina and Messi, so if they are true we could be playing France for 3rd place ![]()
They were and I thought that I had answered in the same way.
Now it is “Heia England” all the way here in Norway.
Now do you realise why I am just a simple sailor and not a football expert.
Spain just comprehensively beat who I thought were the best team in the tournament by a country mile.
Best stick to driving Ships ![]()
Well boats these days anyway ![]()
You’re apparently not familiar with the expression from American football “defense wins championships.”
That the “RO, RO, RO” mania has spread worldwide should be well know by now:
But is this taking it too far?:
The English Premier League is the most watched League in the world.
There is a reason for this and it’s not just my bias.
The football played is attacking and entertaining.
Although certain clubs have been the dominant forces over the years these clubs have been different clubs not the same ones all the time.
On any match day it is possible for the bottom clubs to beat the to beat the top ones.
This makes for entertaining football, and why the TV sponsorship is so high. Hence we can watch the top players in the world.
Unfortunately attractive attacking football does not win major trophies.
England have not won a major trophy since 1966.
So you are correct boring football wins trophies.
Spain in the final proves this
If you want attractive = winning there’s always professional “wrestling”…
Clever. For me, it’s gotta be the Dutch women’s field hockey team. That is one fine field of dreams. (Pun fully intended).
Well it all went wrong for us last night.
Poor decisions by our manager cost us the game.
A dirty side Vs a boring side in the final.
I fear for the beautiful game
For those who don’t know the difference:
Norwegian team’s legacy after the World Cup:
Yes that is true, but I have read in Norwegian media that there are some dissidents where parents take the early kids games a little too serious lately. Hopefully we are not heading for American conditions.![]()
But here is a more urgent question:
Not sure what it’s called in Ireland, Australia and Canada but it ain’t football
Feh. You must have searched long and hard to find that one. Do a google image search for “football or soccer map” and you get scores of maps that include the countries I listed and also South Africa on the “soccer” side. But I guess if you are one to “do your own research” you can eventually find something that supports what you want it to.
First thing that came up when I did a search.
The simple answer is that the word “football” in America was already being used for a real sport. You’re lucky we don’t call it “kickball”.
Real sport???
Rugby played by pansies who are too scared of physical contact that they have to wear armour.![]()
