Greenlanders have spoken

Someone else has also spoken about Greenland:

What is important is what Greenland speaks about itself and it’s future plans.
Playing with fire - just saying  . There has already been one country playing games with a bigger guy and it is ending poorly.

(Free except for Trump’s attempt at meddling)

BTW: USA already have an agreement whereby they can establish military bases on Greenland:

Both the former and present Greenland Government has stated that US companies have the same right to apply for mining permits, or any other form of business permits, in Greenland as any other foreign companies.

It is up to the Greenlanders to decide how they will be governed, who will be their Head of State (Presently the King of Denmark) and who they want to do business with.

PS> They already have the right to declare independence from Denmark when they are ready for it. But they also have to weigh the pros and cons of independence, both economically and security wise.

With allies like the US, Denmark is happy to have good and reliable friends in Europe and beyond:
The Greenland situation is on the agenda at the “Joint Expeditionary Force Leaders’ Summit on security” now ongoing in Oslo: Norway to host Joint Expeditionary Force Leaders’ Summit on security - regjeringen.no

The meeting stated this morning and the US threats against Greenland is on the agenda:
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on Friday said those who believe there is “another kind of legal regime in the Arctic” should be told that “this is not the case.”
Speaking ahead of a Joint Expeditionary Force leaders’ meeting in Oslo, Gahr Støre said there seemed to be suggestions that “in the Arctic, there is some kind of terra nullius, law doesn’t apply.”
“It applies, sovereignty applies. And Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark,” he said ahead of the meeting with the leaders of the U.K., Nordic and Baltic nations.

Denmark is not keeping quite about this unfriendly act by the Trump Administration:

The message is clear: “Greenland is open for business, but not for sale”.

  • Nathanielsen said Greenland wants Western investment but will “need to look elsewhere” if Europe and the US do not engage soon.
  • The Arctic island holds valuable but difficult-to-access mineral reserves including gold and copper.
  • Greenland’s new coalition government is focused on economic development but wary of both Chinese and American geopolitical motives.
  • Nathanielsen said the EU is a better fit due to its need for critical minerals and alignment on environmental standards
  • She added that the government is struggling to find its place in a shifting global order, noting that “Chinese investment is of course problematic, but so, to some extent, is American.

While Greenlanders have spoken , Americans have answered with pllans.

The Pentagon is poised to shift its oversight of Greenland by putting it under U.S. Northern Command, a symbolic gesture that would more closely align the island territory with the U.S. as President Donald Trump continues to show interest in taking control over the Arctic landmass.

Pentagon to redraw command map to more closely align Greenland with the US - POLITICO

From the Politico article:

It certainly has caused some uproar within NATO:

New defense agreement could lead to surveillance of Greenland with Norwegian aircraft

A new agreement on Danish-Norwegian defence cooperation could lead to surveillance of Greenland by Norwegian aircraft.

Maybe there are more than national strategic interests behind Trump`s desire to acquire Greenland:

Do we see “Trump Resort & Golf Course”, “Trump Hotel”, a mini “Trump Tower” and a gold statue of Trump in Nuuk in the future?

More of the same:

Premier of Greenland 🇬🇱 statement this morning;

This morning, I am both saddened and grateful 🇬🇱

Saddened, because during a press conference last night, the President of the United States once again expressed a desire to take over Greenland. With such statements, our country is reduced to a question of security and power. That is not how we see ourselves, and it is not how Greenland can or should be spoken about.

We are a people with a long history, a strong culture, and a vibrant democracy. We are a country with responsibility for our own territory and for our own future. Our territorial integrity and our right to self-determination are firmly anchored in international law and cannot simply be ignored.

That is also why I am grateful.
Thank you to everyone here at home for the clear support and unity that has been shown. The calmness and dignity with which you have met this situation send a strong signal of a people who stand firm in their values and in their responsibility.

I would also like to thank heads of government and partners around the world who have clearly and unequivocally expressed their respect for Greenland, for our democratic institutions, and for the fundamental principles of international law. That support confirms that we here at home do not stand alone.

Once again: Greenland is our country. Decisions are made here. And I will at all times fight for our freedom and our right to decide for ourselves and to shape our own future.

For now, I hope that the peace of Christmas can settle over us all.
Merry Christmas ![:greenland:|16x16]

Not only Greenland, but the other West Nordic communities have shared history and interests:

The Icelandic, Faroese and Greenlandic flags. (Alþingi)

They are also weary of outside unfriendly interest and “attention” in the region:

Source: https://www.arctictoday.com/111455-2/

That interest is not of newer date, at least as far as the US goes:

Why is it that you think Trump’s interest is “unfriendly”?

His style is to have everyone agree to a mutually beneficial deal. If Greenlanders are too stubborn or stupid to take a good deal, then they can take their chances alone. Perhaps we can all wait for the deal. shall we?

Perhaps Trump has an eye for the future when the earth’s poles flip again and Greenland might end up with a nice Gaza-like, Mediterranean climate? Have you thought about that?

Yes, beneficial for Trump and his family.

Have you ever met any Greenlanders?
PS: You have to be stubborn to live in Greenland.

You mean he’s waiting for his Gaza plan to finally work, before he takes over Greenland and make a copy resort there?

PS: If that takes for the poles to flip, he must have ambitions to live longer than Metusalem!!! (Still as President?)
