Surprise win in Greenland election:
Greenlandâs pro-business opposition won 29.9% of the vote in a closely watched parliamentary election, beating the incumbent left-wing coalition. The victorious Demokraatit Party promised a gradual route to independence from Denmark and âmore business to finance our welfareâ. Mr Trump has vowed to make Greenlandâa semi-autonomous regionâpart of America in order to boost his countryâs security.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen congratulated the Demokraatit party and said the future Greenlandic government would likely have to âdeal with massive pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump,â according to DR.
He added that âitâs not the case that you can just take part of the Danish Realm â the future of Greenland is based on what the Greenlandic people and government want,â DR reported.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, meanwhile, called the election âa joyful day and a celebration of democracyâ in a statement Wednesday. She congratulated Demokraatit and said the Danish government would await the results of coalition negotiations.

Never understood why anyone would think the Greenlanders would turn over their sovereignty to the USA.
Would Saudi Arabia with all its wealth turn over its sovereignty to the USA? They got smart a century ago and kicked out their British âadvisorsâ and have done very well for themselves.
Ditto the tiny city-states of Dubai and Qatar.
If Greenland is as rich in natural resources as President Musk says it is, Greenlanders stand to be even richer per-capita than the richest Saudi.
Why would they give that up to be herded onto a reservation?
