gCaptain Doomsday Prep

In response to a brilliant but off-topic post on guns in America I was prompted to start this discussion on the future of gCaptain in the unlikely event of a major disaster. I’m going to stay out of commenting on this post so not to revile specific details or plans… but do know that I will read and consider each comment. Here’s a brief FAQ to start the discussion:

What is a major disaster?
One in which the internet is down but we need to rely on each other to survive. This includes (but is not limited to) global war (cyber or real), economic collapse, natural disaster on a global scale, etc.

Are you a prepped?
No, I don’t believe (or secretly desire) any large scale calamity. But, as a former boy scout, I do want gCaptain to be prepared for all possible outcomes.

What has gCaptain done, so far, to prepare?
The files critical to gCaptain have been backed up and saved in many locations, some of which have extensive emergency systems (backup generators, fire suppression systems, etc). gCaptain is also truly integrated in the global infrastructure… slave servers constantly pull from our central server and serve files locally.

Further gCaptain has some impressive fans including S.E.A.L. team leaders, author of the bestselling emergency book (http://amzn.to/T6B1tx), the former head of server operations for facebook, among others. I’ve consulted with each about specific parts of our emergency management plan.

What is gCaptain’s specific plan for dealing with an emergency?
The specifics need to be kept confidential but I can say that gCaptain has access to an ocean going vessel, basic supplies and equipment to live without external support for at least a year, satellite communications systems, and plans on getting underway.

What is the objective?
In the event of large scale disaster to 1st) use gCaptain’s network of mariners to assist each other, protect each other (and our families!) and 2nd) Use our network and collective experience assist in global maritime relief efforts.

What are the biggest challenges?
Establishing and maintaining 2-way communication with our forum readers so that we can stay in touch and assist each other.
The unexpected.

What else needs to be done?
I open this question up to the forum… I am looking for ideas and solutions to help gCaptain prepare?

Lucky SOB…gotta be all that swag you get to play with

Me…if the shit really hit the fan, I’ve got the c.captain command mobile but it is not ready yet for a sudden cataclysm.

Needs a diesel, tank trailer to pull spare fuel behind it and an interior for living. Also the arsenal is woefully inadequate. Been looking for a nice Springfield M1A if anyone has one for sale. If I truly had to, I could make the dirt fly and get underway for the hills in a week or less if things truly went to hell in a handbasket. I’d just toss anything I could think of into the back and just vamoose. Maybe I’d head for Victor, MT to rendezvous with S-n-G. Find a hidey hole in the Bitteroots but if it was true anarchy in the US, I might bug out to Canada but changing US dollars to Canadian would be a bitch.

Not that I’ve thought about any of this tho.

Come-on over Captain, I got stories to tell. Plus, in my shed there are bunk beds and a wood stove. You’d love it. Oh, you don’t mind my cigar now do you?

If anyone wants to put gCaptain, the maritime industry, AND surviving the apocalypse together into one neatly wrapped package there is one ONE answer:

I especially like the bit about how to make zombie bio-diesel. When is gCaptain going to buy one of these and how do we book passage?

Didn’t we just survive the apocalypse?

HELL MAN!..I’ll smoke’m if you’s gots’m and I’ll even bring a couple of cases of whiskey to share. You got diesel there? I need about 5000 gallons to survive 20 years. Fuck the gold…oil will be new gold in the coming apocalypse along with 7.62mm ammo!

anyone remember Mad Max?

It won’t work man…when you’re that big you’re a target. Gotta be small enough to be invisigable to all the predators! Besides, where you gonna get the 50’s from and the ammo for them? And on top of all of that, that’s no river towboat…how you gonna use an offshore boat on the river? Be realistic man!

If I were going to do a maritime escape, I’d just steal the most nondescript boat I could find provided it was sail. I’d head offshore and make for some very small island a very long way away.

But again, not that I have thought at all about any of this!

Here is an article about EMP (electromagnetic pulse) and it effects on the entire United Sates, something like this I don’t think is to far out of reach with some of the crazy regimes like Iran, or the extreme terrorist orginazitions out there. It would not really affect the people much but all the electronics that were online would be toast. It would cause a major disaster in the banking system, not to mention the computerised supply chain that we have now days. Grocery stores would be out of food within a few days, there would be no money from ATM’s or credit cards. Most people are no where near prepared for something like this. Communications would be at a stand still, no cell phones or computers.

One stragetically placed EMP missle 200 miles above Kansas and the all the electronics in the U.S. are toast. That would be chaos like we have never seen.

Not to sound like a doomsday nut but I have a bunker at my house and I keep and old 4X4 truck there that has zero electronics on it, and plenty of supplys, just in case. I don’t believe in Zombies but nut case’s like Iran I don’t trust, well come to think about it I don’t really trust my own guvment that much.

btw, thought I’d mention it but the c.captain command mobile needs a powered gun turret from a B-17 with twin 50’s and 10000 rounds of ammo…just in case anyone has one out there?

The Catherder Command Center must be well stocked with delectable yummies such as red wine and real (no M&M’s) chocolate.

Don’t be hating on m&m’s!
Didn’t we just survive the apocalypse?
Yes ~
It seems every two weeks or so we miss the Day of Doom, although the Law of Averages (or some kind of Law) states that one day you will kiss your ass good bye.
I have it on good authority THAT day is a long long way off, but what does authority know. Look at the mess authority has placed us in.
'Course there’s always a good side to every bad situation.

My Winchester (Model 1894) 32 special carbine shoots straight. I think I have a box of ammo.
We will survive ~

Im stealing an ATB with a barge load of deisel and im heading south, way south.

Yeah, an EMP blast would toast everything. Read - One Secound After -.

Those of us who experienced the Cuban Missile Crises, as it was called, and then went on to Nam, have some thing to tell you, HORSE SHIT.

I received info that it will hit Texas first, yet my family living there ~~~~~ Oh, the humanity!

Perhaps those living in Dallas may consider Fort Worth.
