Funny. But I don’t know which is the bigger embarrassment, Trump or the news media following his every tweet. At the end of the day they both care about only one thing, the ratings. The news people want the ratings so they get the money from advertisers and Trump being the former game show guy thinks the ratings get him publicity which in Trump world is dollars. They are both right. It’s all about the money and ratings. There is little governing being done and precious few objective facts coming from any network media.
I have only one vote but the opportunities to comment on the abysmal state of American political “leadership” are endless.
It’s a big show to keep people entertained. Very close to the drama scripts from old soap operas & “professional” wrestling. Trump is an evil genius & most are suckers buying tickets. Everyone is entertained one way or another.
If that is what you want to tell yourself. But to me it looks like you are having a good time which is perfectly fine & understandable.
Mostly to point out the hypocrisy. Some of these stories are bothersome, or should be. And the fact that you don’t click on them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. It means you can blissfully ignore them so you can continue to hold your original beliefs.
For me I think it’s a combination of psychological study and a learning opportunity. I used to skip the political threads. But I found this wasn’t a discussion I could have at work, nor really with anyone at home and carry it out over time like in the forum setting.
The study part comes in trying to understand how people stick by their candidate even in the face of them supporting beliefs I find counter to the public good, and in some case simply abhorrent.
The learning part comes in research making sure what I believe to be true is backed up by the actual record before just spewing my thoughts in text.
So while I wait for more topics to be posted in which I can hopefully offer some useful experience from years sailing as an engineer, I don’t see it as a problem to continue clicking and adding to these political discussions.
Absolutely, completely agree. It wasn’t my intention to imply that people shouldn’t dwell on politics or vent their frustrations, fears & disgust with politics. Just giving my observation & opinion that people love doing it. If Twitter tried to take DJT bullhorn he would just get another & the media, the masses, his haters & fans would tune in just the same.
The show must go on!
There is a book written in 1988 called Manufacturing Consent and a really recent book that is available called Hate Inc. that explains a lot. I recommend them.
It is unfortunate that it is a show. I personally don’t use Twitter. I don’t have the free time in the day to be reading every thought that pops into peoples heads. On one hand I wish the President didn’t have enough free time in his day to tweet every thought and conspiracy theory that pops into his head either. But on the other hand it’s nice that it’s there for all to see the crazy. And the third hand…per the OP topic, its fortunately/unfortunately out there for the rest of the world to see and judge too.
The snarky and sneaky bitch lost. Get over it. Did I vote for DJT, no. But glad the ones that did made up for my mistake. The guy is a goofball, but cunningly “Dumb”. Gotta cut some people open to get the hook out.
I honestly can’t figure out which post you are replying to. It’s shitposts like this that make it difficult to have a genuine discussion.
We were talking about here about the obsession over tweets, those who write them, those who report them, and those who read them. For the life of me I can’t figure out why the President of the United States has spent two days, several tweets, and several press conferences suggesting that a former Congressmen, from his office in Washington DC, might have somehow murdered an assistant on the same day in an office thousands of miles away in Florida, which the coroner found to be an accident from a heart condition, almost 20 years ago!
Thats not a ‘cunning goofball.” If anything its inappropriate focus for the leader of the free world, an abuse of the bully pulpit, and an asshole thing to do to that woman family.
It seems like you’ll vote for him this time, you just keep hesitating to actually say it with conviction. Putting aside the two candidates, I’m voting for what the parties stand for and believe in. As someone who began my voting life voting for R’s, I can no longer in good conscience continue to do so. Screw the politicians, I choose to care about the topics, respect for others, personal rights and freedoms, the health of the world I live in, and the betterment of society.
As do I sir. That is your and my right. I will greedily vote for the party that causes me the least trouble, as most voters do. Until I can possibly see through what either party is representing (A hard task for all of us) I reserve my blessed vote. Lack of conviction, well, probably. Trumps policies have not hurt me. I have until November to decide. If I want to hear how horrible our present leader is, I can get kicked off my sisters lawn any time I prefer. I don’t mention him,she does. It just doesn’t bother me her gal lost a rigged election in her favor. P.S. I don’t tweet.
I got rid of my FB account. I do have a twitter account. The trick is keep the number of accounts you follow to a minimum.

Media critic
I remember Jimmy and Ronnie debating. " Now there you go again".
How do you know? Do you not count the known and unknown damage to what George Washington described as “The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty . . is finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American People.”
Do you not care about the future of your children and the generation that follows you?
“Some day the same Germans, now cheering Hitler’s strut into Paris, will say to their American friends and to their brave German anti-Nazi friends:‘We did not know what went on, we did not know’ and when that day of know-nothing comes, there will be laughter in hell.”
Peter Viereck, German-American Scholar, 1940
Please refer to my former post regarding Jimmy and Ronnie. I do not know the “unknown” do you? Perhaps if you know the unknown go work on Wall Street. If you are that adept, and all seeing, I may perhaps follow you. For now, I have a choice which way to go. Following digruntled voters is not my style. Or is pissing on my elected presidents , as many as we have had in our lifetime.
To quote some unnamed wit … “I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.”
And that is the heart of the problem. The Republican Party seems to push legislation that helps few to the detriment of many. Greed is not good for the greater society. There has been much legislation proposed or passed that does not cause me “trouble” personally, but it hurts others I know for no good reason.
I am neither greedy nor particularly selfish. While I certainly look out for my own self-interest, I see value in public benefit. I’ve done very well in the maritime industry. I make great money and don’t really need more tax cuts, but lower income folks could. I’m not gay and so am not really helped by legalization of gay marriage personally, but I wouldn’t be hurt by it and those who would be hurt by the lack there of are. I’m not a woman and so I won’t personally get an abortion, but I wouldn’t be hurt by those who need one having access to it. I don’t live in some of the states where national parks are being reduced in size, so I’m not hurt by any loss of tourism or local pride, but as a citizen of this country and a visitor of parks and monuments I side with those who are opposed to cutting them.
I could continue, but that is the easiest start to illustrate that your greed an indifference hurts and restricts the lives and liberties of others. None of those things cause you trouble, yet you still support the party that wishes to use them to cause trouble for others.
Yes, perhaps I am the heart of the problem according to your response. I have not made a decision on my vote, as you perhaps have already. Fine by me, it is up to me, and only me. Voters vote for who serves them best, not what other voters tell them “How” they should vote because their particular party is better than the other. Perhaps “greedily” offended you some how, Most mariners I know have thick skin and are not snowflakes.Sorry pal, a lot of people vote with how the administration will affect their pocketbooks. If you have a little leftover, feel free to donate to your dearest local charity or political party of choice. I won’t demean you or whatever party you choose, it’s your choice.
too true
a system that allows a political beginner off the street to become President might not be the best system.
So is the USA unlucky it happened this time or lucky it hasnt happened before or vice versus?
Then again with what seems a massive boys club controlling politics in the USA the system was designed like this so an outsider could come in and fix it but Trump will need 4 more years to do that.
I never told you how to vote, nor say or yell anything to make you think I’m thin skinned. As for snowflakes, I live in snow county, wish it would snow year round.
What I did do was to point out some examples of why I don’t vote R. You chose to counter none of them. All you’ve said so far is that apparently the only thing you care about is money and what’s good for you personally. Thats your right I suppose. I was just hoping for a slightly more nuanced argument.
