Foreigners is also watching US politics

Then screw the state stuff, the presidency is a federal office. Vote by mail, vote by internet, vote in person, just do anything to make sure the most people vote. Give a tax deduction for voting if that is what it takes.

As far as state elections for both houses of congress, the same should apply but campaign contributions of any sort by any organization (including PACs) or person who cannot vote for that candidate, should be prohibited. A violation by the contributor or recipient should constitute a felony.

The Real ID act put a hurting on folks like I used to be. The act practically requires someone to pay rent, mortgage, land line phone or utilities to get an ID and therefore to prove you are legal to vote. Now, I understand this is a problem for a minority of citizens but I’d guess many of us on this forum have run into this problem.

(Some other banking act makes it equally difficult to open a bank account or investment account without the same proof of residence.)

While I was ‘homeless’ my choices were either to lie to the federal and state government about where I lived, or tell the truth and not be eligible to open an investment account, have a drivers license or vote. Remember that I’m an American citizen, born and raised in America, to American born parents. I made six figures a year working for the American military while holding a security clearance. Yet I couldn’t open a bank account, get a drivers license and vote without lying?

It was bullshit. I can’t imagine what trouble someone without my advantages would have.

So much sneaky stuff going on by both parties, I am probably voting for the one that tells the best fibs. There are some whoppers coming from both sides. Gonna be tough deciding.

This whole voting thing is pure BS drummed up by a corrupt administration with a pressing need to deny the vote to as many people as possible.

Trump and his cult followers are frightened for very good reasons, they fear justice and loss of power, they will become more dangerous the closer we get to November. Do not let them take your vote away.

For California proof of residency you will need to provide two of the different documents listed below. Remember this is only proof of residency, not citizenship or other steps. This step can be waived if presenting a drivers license or CA ID because, as part of the CA drivers license or ID, this was already done:

  • Rental or lease agreement with the signature of the owner/landlord and the tenant/resident
  • Deed or title to residential real property
  • Mortgage bill
  • Home utility bill (including cellular phone)
  • School documents issued by a public or private primary, secondary, or post-secondary institution, college, or university that includes the applicant’s date of birth. If using a foreign school document, it must be sealed by the school and include a photograph of the applicant at the age the record was issued
  • Medical documents
  • Employment documents
  • Insurance documents, including medical, dental, vision, life, home, rental or vehicle
  • Tax return (either Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or California Franchise Tax Board (FTB)
  • Change of Address Confirmation by the U.S. Postal Service
  • Property tax bill or statement
  • Faith-based document that includes the name and address of organization
  • Records from any state or national bank, state or federal savings association, trust company, industrial loan company, state or federal credit union, or any institution or entity that has issued a credit card
  • Voter registration confirmation letter or postcard issued by the California Secretary of State or a local California county elections officer
  • Proof of payment of resident tuition at a public institution of higher education in California
  • An original copy of an approved Claim for Homeowners’ Property Tax Exemption (BOE-266) form filed with a local California County Assessor
  • Court documents that list the applicant as a resident of California
  • Letter attesting that the applicant resides in California from a homeless shelter, shelter for abused women, non-profit entity, faith-based organization, employer or government agency within the United States
  • A document issued by a U.S. government agency, meaning the entity, office, or authority governing over a country, state, county, city, municipality, district, agency, department, or any other political subdivision of a country or state
  • California Certificate of Vehicle or Vessel Titles or registration
  • A DMV No Fee Identification Card Eligibility Verification (DL 933) form, completed and signed

what do you need for a passport?

for my first passport application in OZ I only needed my birth certificate and a letter from the list of professionals they give your, Dr, Laywer, etc that has know you ex years

Had birth certificate and drivers license to get passports. Only problem was the post office had a new camera that they weren’t very adept at operating it. Took a month to tell us that picture wasn’t “correct”. Went to Walmart of all places and got the pictures for my bride and I that were accepted a month after that. Oh well, we weren’t going any where soon, just wanted to have them just in case for whatever. USPS did give us a credit due to their mistake with the camera.

To Ombugge’s original post in this thread, if anyone wants to know what has gone on in USA politics since Nixon, they should seriously consider reading this book by Jane Mayer. (a journalist who has been following the development of the gas lighting and covert schemes by the Neo-GOP for the last 30 years.

Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right

I think that they will find more answers than they are comfortable with there. This book is literally a time line of what has happened, who did it, documentation, their methods & means, and ultimate goals.

Went to the site, sounds like an interesting read. Those Koch boys are ass deep in this for sure. No surprise.

Got it, $2.99 on Kindle.

SeaEagle, I think you’d be more than amazed if you listen to it or read it. Koch Bros are only the tip of the iceberg.

Kennebec, fasten your seat belt. (not offering any spoilers here other than that)

Ombugge, I hope you get in on this book too.

Now I am more than interested. Gotta read “Meow Man” first though. I need some humor in my life about now.

Just started it a couple of days ago.

I read it when it came out. Highly recommended. Never been factually refuted

An article in WP was quotened in Norwegian VG tabloid newspaper today:

Here is the WP original:

PS> What is he going to do all day if Twitter is shut down? No more “Government by Tweet”? It may be a political crisis of biblical proportions.

He will be nothing more than a skidmark on the national toilet. The stain and the stink will eventually go away.

I do not think anyone other than the news media pays attention to Trump’s tweets anymore. The guy is a snowflake who tweets like a teenager going thru some kinda angst. I will give him credit for one thing. Most adults I know didn’t know what a Tweet was until Trump was elected and began to rule by Tweet in the wee hours of the night.
Hell many thought Tweeting was some kind of Tweety Bird cartoon shit. Now we know it is a form of communication for those whose thoughts rational or not can be contained in about two sentences.

95% of the time when I see the word Twitter in a headlines Donald Trump’s name is in the same sentence. If Twitter kicked him off, Trump would continue his ramblings on another social media platform, perhaps even on a newly created one where one of his cohorts would profit greatly? The snarky, no-scripted thoughts of DJT is a hot commodity & I suspect a lot of companies would want in on that action. If it weren’t for Trump his nimese businesses like CNN, MSNBC, The Atlantic etc would only have half their customers & circulation. It’s a symbiotic relationship where both are the parasite but Twitter & the libs need Trump more than he needs them.

Yeah, like society needs venereal disease or Corvid to keep the medical profession occupied.

No offense intended by this Steamer, I’m just giving a honest personal observation that I could be completely wrong about. I’ve been wrong about a great many things & have plenty of experience.

From my observation, more than 3/4 of your comments on this forum is about Donald J Trump. You’re not the only one with some people close to 90% & others down to about 50% IMO. To spend so much time, energy & thought on it you have to enjoy it? Myself, I can’t stand a thought of child abuse or children suffering. I don’t click on those stories, comment on them or want to even think about them I dislike it so much. Why spend time, energy or thought on something that bothers me so much. I don’t need it. But it appears to me Trump haters love hating DJT so much it consumes them. He’s a narcissist & I’m sure he loves all the attention as well. That’s why I call it a symbiotic relationship. Trump, his fans & haters deserve each other & you all look like you’re having a good time.
