Shipping company hasn’t asked for protection from US forces specifically. There are other nations involved as well. (Although that probably hasn’t been reported in US media of you liking)

BTW; if all the world merchant ships were to become US-flag, who would man them?

If only those shipowners that ask specifically for US Navy protection need to re-flagg to US I agree, there wouldn’t be much of a manning problem.
If you know for a fact that any foreign owners has actually done so, pleas shear the info.

At the moment there are both a US-lead (Operation Prosperity Guardian) and an EU-lead (EUNAVFOR Operation Aspides)
In addition the US and Britain lead a more aggressive operation (Operation Poseidon Archer)

You also can’t just have boots on the ground their needs to be a plan to rebuild and develop the region along with building up a stable government so that when the boots on the ground leave the country does not just fall back into anarchy or the old regime does not come back.

I agree with you on the likely end result, but IMHO the US public has no taste for involvement in Middle East wars again, or putting US military lives on the line in Middle East garrisons. That’s why I favor a US/NATO naval force to shell/bomb the Houthis pirates, then send Arab forces in (Egyptians, Saudis, Kuwaitis, Iraqis) to do the ground fighting, and bolster the Houth’s Yemeni enemies.

IMHO USA shouldn’t be the world’s policeman alone. If we do it, other nations have to share in the burden. The USA/NATO support for Ukraine is a model that it can work, at least in funding and arms supply.

@ombugge. What you suggest is rewarding terrorists for committing acts of terror and taking hostages. That would rarely work in the short run and would definitely be a losing long term strategy. It would only prove that terrorism works and create more terrorists committing more atrocities.

We need to fight fire with fire. Terrorists and their supporters, sympathizers, and the next generation of potential terrorists must be shown that terrorism only leads to an agonizing, humiliating, and certain death for them, their families, and their peoples. That is the only winning strategy to combat terrorism.

Well, it seems like Fatah and the lawful Palestinian Authority are a lot more agreeable with that outcome. I think it’s pretty telling that they aren’t speaking up in support of Hamas and their brand of politics (aka: terrorism).
