Good news! This morning when I checked the mariner credential feature at the NMC site, it shows the following endorsements on my ticket:
“Master-Not valid on vessels 3,000 Gross Tons (GT) or more. Not valid after December 31, 2016” and
"Officer in charge of a navigational watch (OICNW)-Not valid on vessels 3,000 Gross Tons (GT) or more. Not valid after December 31, 2016."
So it seems the good advice of water, tugsailor, flyer69, Mr. Cavo, and others was spot on and saved the day.
Curious though about two items:
Why the expiration date and what to do about that when the time comes (ticket renewal date is in March 2016)? and
Why do these endorsements show up in the international section as I thought they were domestic endorsements only?
Not complaining by any means; if anything the relief is like a blanket:D, but I am curious. Any help?

Mr. Cavo,
Can you please weigh in on the one time use of the old system that was in question above? I am interested in learning how the NMC is going to handle this. Thanks in advance.

Just talked to the NMC call center. I was told that Dec 31st 2016 date is the time period for anyone who holds this license to be allowed to take the courses required to be fully STCW endorsed. Anyone who does not fulfill these courses by then will have limitations on their STCW endorsement. This includes anyone who already holds the license.
Problem is there is no place to take the coarse
According to NMC’s web page, there are currently 4 courses, there will be more as the demand for the courses grows ( as soon as schools realize there is a need for the course)
