What's up at Harvey?

Not sure who’s losing contract when DP2 supply boat utilization is at 100% …

There is a ton of people walking around on Chouest boats with orange hard hats. Either ECO is ramping up their hiring for all of their new builds, or they are losing people to harvey and hos really quickly.

Ramping. You forget, 40 newbuilds on the way.
Sometimes companies dont understand that they will spend more time and quality services training a whole bunch of new guys at the same time than giving before raise.

But for them to loose their contracts to another companie just because of this is a lot more difficult that just loosing personnel.
Training is cheap. An AB is just an OS with 120 days of seatime. I think Chouest is paying the market rate and won’t be raising any time soon. To many applications waiting. Supply and demand… Lots of supply.

With most companies running 4 man wheelhouse, with extra personnel in the engine room to boot, takes the pressure off, all the extras don’t really need to know much and can be training for the next open spot. Supply and demand… Lots of supply and the customers are footing the bill.

The only thing that I see a supply shortage is experience. That takes time, so leads, chief engineers, and their reliefs would be the ones to steal and pay handsomely. Otherwise, it’s just wasted money.

Bonus, high pay, huge overhead all require either higher contract prices or less profit… Neither are long term goals.

Supply and demand…

Curious, what are the backgrounds of these “new hires”? What is the percentage of new hires that come from zero sea going experience to those that have experience working on ships? It sounds like a lot of these companies are recruiting a lot of green hands.

All depends on the position the new hires fill. Of course OS new hires have little to no experience.

Still not much different from the old days. These boat companies would hire anyone off the streets to fill a billet and then train them. Half these rig hands are on work release. Although some companies now would like to see at the very least a merchant document and stcw,
