Im still waiting to hear “good things”. Unless there is a sudden flood of YES votes in the 9th inning of the ballot count, I think its dead. My dues more than double come Jan 1, and the rumor cycling around here is that the VA managing partner doesnt plan on honoring the contract after Jan 1st, if it does go thru. Im not against paying more money for something that benefits us all, but what ive heard about MMP, and their handling of the Hornblower ferries makes 333 contracts seem like rainbows.
Ive talked to alot of guys and there going to be voting yes. I went to the meetings they have had and got the info on my own. You cant rely on other people telling the good or bad things about the merger. With something like this u have to get ur own info
But don’t all the 333 fuckhead delegates etc stay? They’re the problem.
I don’t know how it was at your place but our problem was no one was voting, back dues, laziness, whatever the reason but that’s why the same people remained in office at 333 from what I witnessed.
Elections will happen in 2016. So people will actually have to participate for things to happen. Atleast we wont have people working on union boats and not payin dues anymore
Are you making an assumption? I can’t wait to see the fall of the RTBU when things start playing out.
No thats not an assumption. MMP has elections at the same time for all the division at the same time… I believe its every 2 or 4 years. I forgot. But i do know in 2016 there will be elections for the entire MMP as a whole.
I wanna see the day when everyone has paid in, and is a dues paying member in good standing. Wait till Kirby flags the boats out of Houston, RTBU wont have a leg to stand on.
Just gotta ask…why does every post turn into a union bitch-fest? We know some of you are die-hard union, and that’s ok. We also know some are die-hard anti union, and that’s ok too. …I’d say if you want to discuss unions all the time, start a post on it.
that is precisely what i was trying to fg avoid when i started this fg thread. Take your f*****g union chatter elsewhere.

Yeah sorry about that, didnt intend on hijacking your thread. I know the Catherine was sold to a company up north, and we are balls deep moving material, the end of the season cant come fast enough.
I don’t see the problem. If a thread grows so be it. Does a safety meeting only stay with the topics that are on the paper or does it ever grow. Knowledge is power. Contribute and keep it going, if you can curb the negative chatter all the better but I’d never condone the ending of a conversation just because it branched off from the original topic.
I read where that Catherine is heading to the Great Lakes. I always thought she was a pretty good boat. Another fine Main Iron Works product.

Local Unions, like 333, must hold elections every 3 years according to Labor Law. International Unions must hold elections every 4 years. ILA officers are not elected by the membership. The ILA uses an antiquated patronage system to keep the same people on the payrolls for decades.
The ILWU, (not affiliated with the ILA) the West Coast version of a Longshoreman’s union, operate under the one-man, one-vote system, the most democratic method of all. That means that you, the individual members, choose the president and officers of the International union that your local union is a part of. You also vote for the officers of your Local Union under the one man, one vote system like we had at 333.
The ILA absolutely abhors the one man, one vote system. A lot of ILA VP’s would lose their second and third salaries with such a democratic system in place.
Why is 333 membership bringing the delegates with them to mmp? Theyre a huge part of the reason 333 is such a joke.
LolZ stop it. It really makes Zero sense as to what they’re doing.
I wish Local 333 was here in the gulf. Maybe our wages would go up and better benefits? Ron Tucker and Paulie (don’t call me Paul) Riora are mavericks at negotiating contracts, benefits, and wages! Maybe even get our grub receipts posted? The talk of how great they were 30 years ago, really gets me motivated to sign a pledge card, I tell ya!
That’s like total baiting…even entrapment. Not nice at all…
Who would have thought that the Winter Olympics should include a tractor tug event?
