I know we have been here before but I cannot find the thread. I do remember there were some excellent recommendations for sea bags. There was one brand in particular that I checked from a link here that I liked, but cannot find it now. And of course now is when I need a new bag. So it might be opportune time to help out the newbies as well as me…
I am open any suggestions. I expect to spend $70 to $100 for the right bag(s).
What kind of seaman are you? You are supposed to sew your own out of some old sail cloth. Preferrably the really stiff winter canvas with handsewn grommets!

Been there, done that! Now I am all grown up I’ll let someone else do the work and I’ll just pay for it. My ditty bag on my own boat is still the one I made of sailcloth many years ago when it was still fun.

If water proof is not important, here’s some of what I used, relatively cheap and did the job:
A good special forces holdall with back pack style straps we get here for about £10 (GBP) and then I spray waterproofer on it about every 6 months, has lasted over 12 years
I think Mike made a comment on one, the Samsonite DLX or M, something. Look up his posts from last year. A bit pricey unless you can find one on sale. I just got a High Sierra AT 32" bag. Has wheels and back pack straps (stowed away when not using). First bash with wheels and it was wonderful getting around. Figure the back pack straps will be nice going up those long gangways. Abt $130 on sale at Kohls, but can get them lots of places. Weighed in at 52lbs loaded. My 2¢.
although i havent put them to sea yet they have surivied 2 trips including 4 flights without nothing but a odd red streak discoloration on them. i use to be a baggage handler so i know what to expect from those people esp. flying delta. and enough room for plenty of cloths, blanket, tolietries, tools, odd and ends, for about 4 months a time.
My brother bought a new StormTech water proof bag… Very first time he used it to ship out, went to throw it over his shoulder & the seams ripped right open! I couldn’t believe it! And I was actually thinking about buying on of those. Glad I didn’t. They’ll probably suffice for “light” packers. But I’m not one of them.
