If Trump is serious, and who knows if he is, and the U.S. forces The Palestinians out of Gaza, and Trump builds a resort there.
Let’s at least push for U.S. Flag ships (Matson &APL preferably) and U.S. construction companies to get the contracts
This is what happens when a mob boss and a war criminal get together.
Wasn’t there a big war fought to stop this sort of thing about 80 years ago?
Trump’s tone has changed as his mental illness has progressed, consider his 2017 promise, “we will no longer use American military might to construct democracies in faraway lands, or try to rebuild other countries in our own image.”
You believed him?
APL??? Yes American President Line Ltd. used to be a US company, but was sold to NOL in 1997 and then to CMA CGM in 2016.
Why not Maersk Line Ltd. or other foreign owned shipping companies with ships under US flag?
Yes, we all know that.
But APL has U.S. Flag ships
And if you go back and read the OP
You’ll notice I said U.S. Flag ships, not U.S. owned companies.
The US doing this would be so dumb on so many levels it would take up too much bandwidth to write them all out. But if Trump is saying this to get some other country to step up to do it then great. For a couple of decades & even more after Oct 7th, I’ve wondered & asked why in the hell hasn’t some rich Muslim nation revamped Gaza? Both Saudi Arabia & Egypt are Sunni just like the vast majority of Gaza. Many don’t realize Gaza is the size of a small or medium sized county in the US. It’s the size of the county where I live. If my county was enthusiastically 95% Catholic & was destroyed, I’m sure the Vatican & dioceses across the US & globe would be falling over themselves to help rebuild. With the wealth of Saudi Arabia & the small size of Gaza, MBS probably could revamp that shithole with the loose change in a desk drawer somewhere. But actually, after seeing Palestinian women, children & elderly clap & cheer when the raped, naked, dead body of 21 yr old Shani Louk was paraded through their streets after the Oct 7th massacrer & knowing that population gleefully elected a known, notorious terrorist organization to governor them in 2007, there’s probably too many filthy animals in that population & it’s probably not worth the hassle imo.
But it is sure to be an impressive new development (The Riviera of the Middle East)
Just imaging what it will be like, with several Trump Hotels & Resorts, Trump Casinos, Trump Golf Courses.
That will attract hordes of rich Arabs, eager to part with their (not so) hard earned monies.
Sure to make a huge profit that will benefit American taxpayers.
PS> All this will be supplied with clean electric power from offshore wind turbines in the waters off the pristine beaches of the Gaza (Trump?) Strip:

I still don’t like it. The only way I could get on board with such a cockamamie plan would be if we changed the name of the Mediterranean Sea to the “Distant American Sea” or something like that.
May not “American” but “Americas” would be more acceptable worldwide.
(I.e. like Gulf of Americas)
Yes that would surely please ALL Americans, of both South and North American origin.
PS> Goes well with “East Americas Ocean” (Atlantic) and “West Americas Ocean”(Pacific).
Why stop there? What about “Americas Southern Ocean” and “Americas Polar Ocean”.
Nothing can hold him back now!!!
Well maybe I was wrong there. May be facing travel ban in foreign countries would slow him down at least:
So Maersk Line Ltd ships are OK then. They operate the most US-flag ships in overseas trade of both foreign or US owned shipping companies, I believe?
So many people ignorant of Mideast history.
After Israel won its war for independence, Palestinian refugees fled into neighboring Arab countries. Since they were a different ethnic community they were not welcomed, and in many places they became second class citizens. At worst , as in Jordan in 1970, war broke out between the Jordanians and the PLO.
That’s why the West Bank/Gaza are what they are. A dumping ground for Palestinians that the Arab nations don’t want.
But don’t worry. CJ isn’t serious about it. CJ’s proposal is just another distraction while Musk and his tech bros work to pillage the Treasury department and the social security administration, with all the glee of Enron executives and the ethics of Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos. Fake it till you make it, and when you make it put it in an account in the Caymans before you board the plane to Moscow.
No Arab country is going to take the Palestinians, and the Palestinians aren’t going to go.
But just keep watching the shiny object while the other hand reaches for your wallet.
Yes U.S. Flag Maersk ships would be fine
Very soon it will be a federal crime to mention the fact that Israeli Zionists instituted apartheid and genocide as a means to obtain lebensraum. Until the Zionists began their illegal land grab and declared war on Arabs, Beirut was known as the Paris of the Middle East. It is ironic that an American dictator is proposing to create a Trumpian fantasy resort on ethnically cleansed Arab land. It is also ironic that a child of apartheid is counseling a deranged man-child to reconstitute the same policies and goals as those used to justify the atrocities of a German dictator to promote the goals of Israeli religious fanatics.
That should bring the Arab world together and increase Al Qaeda/ISIS recruiting too.
How are the actions of the chief executive taking control of the executive branch of govt the actions of a dictator? Would you prefer they remain in the shadowy hands of unelected bureaucrats?
I know this will be hard for you but hear me out, what if Trump’s grand statement concerning Gaza is part of his normal “art of the deal” cycle?
He makes a grand statement
People reject that statement
Other groups or countries come up with a solution that doesn’t involve the US or Trump.
Trump agrees to keep the US out of it (his goal all along)
I’m not in favor of what he said either, at all, but I’ll wait and see what happens.
The Arab world & pretty much all of Europe shouted “No!” in unison as soon as Trump mentioned this. So you can change “should bring” to “did bring together” in your comment. Hopefully the Arab world, along with the EU, stays together on something and comes up with a similar plan that doesn’t involve the US or our military. As anti-Trumpers constantly point out, Trump doesn’t always do as he says. So if the Arab World doesn’t rebuild Gaza & it stays a pile of rubble with unexploded bombs killing children, Trump will shrug his sholders & claim he wanted to save them but the Arab world & the EU wouldn’t let him. I think, I hope, Trump is just playing games with this nonsense trying to get the Arab world to step up. Also, everyone should write their representatives & say not to fund anything in Gaza.
Think and hope in one hand and shit in the other, one will be empty and the other will be the best you will ever get from Trump and his minions, elected, appointed, or just hopeful groupies.
Unfortunately many of the anti-Trumpers have arrested development & have no concept or context of the words they use. They wholeheartedly supported a puppet who was clearly mentally impared due to age related mental decline then enthusiastically supported an appointed candidate without a primary who had never came close to winning a national election who took his place because of that mental illness. We all know Biden was pushed out because of his age related mental illness & history will record it as such, it’s well documented. But I have never interacted with a Democrat who has admitted as such. Then they claim the other side as being blind or voting for a dictator. It’s arrested development, a self imposed mental block on their part. Just like the Iraq invasion, hindsight will be 20/20 with them. In a couple of years they’ll rewrite their history & claim they knew all along & it was somehow a republicans fault.
I’m not a democrat. I’m an independent. But I see this as bizarre.
The GOP kept pointing to Biden and yelling he was unfit for president because of mental decline.
At a certain point the Democrats agreed with the GOP and went to Biden and asked him to stand down from re-election. Which, after a short period of denial, he did.
In any other context all of this would be perfectly normal and reasonable. But in the crazy world of politics if you agree with your detractors and do what they want, that then makes you un-democratic? To me that logic is just plain nuts.
So, the next question is, Did the elevation of Harris to candidate violate any rules? The answer is, No. It did not violate federal election rules, and it did not violate the internal rules of the private club called the Democratic Party.
So, how was her elevation anti-democratic? It followed the logic of the republican (small r) nature of our government. In a republic the citizens don’t vote en masse on every political decision. They turn that over to representatives who follow the rules of their system or organization.
The final question is, Who is bringing the accusation of being un-democratic? Answer: a party that refused to believe the 2020 election was won by the opposition, and who countenanced an insurrection against the normal handover of political power, breaking 250 years of American tradition.
That, to me, is profoundly un-democratic.
So, believe what you want. But to me this canard that the elevation of Harris to candidate was un-democratic is just politicking by people with dirty hands.
