Union Relief Jobs

Anybody sail full time on only the shorter relief positions at MEBA or AMO? Really would like to sail deep sea but have grown accustomed to shorter hitches. Tried the search but haven’t come across anything super specific. Would that be even feasible to get 130-150 days a year? Any input would good or bad would be appreciated.

I’d tell you but I don’t want you stealing my sweet short relief gigs

Thanks for the input. So plausible then. I’m assuming the easier it is to get the relief jobs the higher the license you hold?

It is very plausible. And yes, because you’ll have more options to choose from.

Group 1 and 1a/e are the ticket.

So 1A/e as an applicant may be a stretch?

What license do you hold? MEBA Relief jobs are constantly going open board and it’s not just jobs that are always difficult to fill. New 3AE applicants are picking up jobs they never would have gotten years ago. There are 1AE jobs open board all the time. There are a lot of guys who live off of relief jobs or one hitch a year. It’s all about qualifications and timing. Summer and holidays you will see an increase opportunities. January and late September there will be fewer jobs because everyone is going back to work. The more credentialed you are the more jobs there are. If you have a 1AE with tanker engineer or pic and OSG knows you exist you will be turning down jobs.

I hold a 1A/e motors. Willing to sail as 2a/e as well. In general are most of the relief jobs shorter? Thanks for the response.

PM me and I can put you in touch with our crewing dept. They have a problem getting 1A/Es pretty much year round. You can sail 2AE for a total of 90 days in two or three trips, Learn the plant and if you get a Tanker Engineer you will have to beat them off with a stick to keep them from calling you for 1A/E relief jobs.

Anyone have any insights into holiday relief gigs? Just thinking of doing something over the November/December time frame.
