Understanding China

So you must include yourself in such “quarters” considering you don’t understand what is happening in the countries largest region?

Yes I would like to hear it.

You won’t answer any question, you just deflect. You post propaganda and refuse read anything posted other than your own articles. You’re a coward.

You’re doing exactly what the Bug is doing and deflecting.

Me think too much Beer and too little Captain.

Lmao, man you really are insufferable and know you’re wrong so you just continue to deflect and refuse to provide any actual argument in a thread that you started. You’re just a CCP sympathizer and onboard with genocide. That’s just pathetic.

I agree with this but I hope you are not saying this just to erase/close a thread that sheds a terrible light on the crimes against humanity orchestrated by China so you can start another pro-China propaganda thread when the dust settles.

BTW, I look at this thread every once & a while & very seldom have I seen people insulting the Chinese citizenry or economic growth rate. I suspect most Americans are like me & are indifferent to China’s economic growth. Their governments hostile warlike actions againt their neighbors & operating concentration camps for their minorities is a totally different subject. You started a thread about China to spread pro-China economic propaganda & of course hardly anyone would let it stay on such a narrow track. If you no longer want people to discuss the horrors going on in China then fine. But don’t bring your sugarcoated version of the events & expect the rest to remain silent.

“On the wrong track” is a relative term. He started a thread called “understanding China.” Maybe he should titled it “Pro-China Thread”

I am done arguing with self absorbed, condescending, paid off hacks. Specifically meaning the Bug.

I’m at least happy there are a few people who use reason and facts to “Understand China”

You are obviously not one of them. Regurgitation western propaganda without checking other sources doesn’t show much understanding of anything, or willingness to hear other opinions. .

But I have had enough of this brainless banter. Enjoy your Hoppy IPA!!

Not at all. Both represent their nations as heads of state. If we want to understand China, we need to understand both nations and their respective Manifest Destinies.

I think that is a good idea if he wants to start a new thread to stay on a track that he likes. He would need to state in the 1st comment that only positive things can be said about China & no rebuttal to his or the Chinese government version of reality allowed. I’m being serious. I would give him the first “thumbs up” like heart.

Well, after reading the last week of this thread, I must say it’s nice to see good old fashioned hammer-and-tongs head walloping is not a thing of the past on Gcaptain.

But I hesitate to ask, if China is guilty of these crimes, which I believe it is, what does it matter? The last time I saw so much negative press on a foreign country was with Iraq around 2003. They were guilty of spectacular human rights abuses. We got involved. We all know where that got us.

China is guilty of severe human rights abuses. So is Myanmar. So is Russia. So is Saudi Arabia. There’s a long list of tyrannical, homicidal governments. But why all the focus on China right now, as opposed to the other dictatorships? What’s the agenda here? Boycott? Tariffs? War? A donation drive to Amnesty International?

Recently when the Saudi Royal family had a WP reporter assassinated it was world news & all the nastiness of that government was discussed widely. Not on this forum though because no members were actively politicking, making excuses & lying for the Saudi Royal family on gCaptain. If there were a propaganda thread titled “Understand Saudi Arabia” trying to distort reality in favor of Saudi Arabia at that time we would have been on it like stink on shit.

Fear of not being the “alpha male” in the world menagerie any more??

I don’t say that there are not things going on in China that is bad, or even against human rights. (As there are many other places in the world, incl. in the US)

If you use the term Genocide you have to take action in some form or another. That is what kept the US from calling genocide in Bosnia and Rwanda for such a long time, even after eventually joining the Genocide Treaty.

PS> The video from HK that started this last argument still don’t have anything to do with genocide.

I don’t know if you say this out of your anti-US paradigm habit or if you actually believe it but I hate to tell you again that you are incorrect again. It’s not getting that much news coverage in the US. Recently I’ve been watching ABC Nightly 3-4 times a week & they haven’t mentioned it. To get in depth coverage Americans need to go to the international news sites. Many Americans don’t care about foriegn genocide, torture & suffering any more.

Sorry to inform you again that you are wrong. I don’t have a “Anti-US paradigm habit”.

I DO have a long time habit of reading and watching news from multiple sources, (incl. from US) and then make up my own mind.
There is obviously a big difference between which US news sources you choose. There are some that has fairly balanced reporting, both on US domestic and foreign matters.

OTOH I know that both BBC World News and The Economist has good US coverage and availability.
Of course that doesn’t help much if you have your mind made up in advance, nor for those who get their news from single sources, or social media.

PS> For comical relief I prefer The Daily Show, Late Night Show, or Fox News.

I think trying to say China is ok is like saying Germany was during WWII.
The Commie gov has total control as did the Hitler.
The majority of both populations would change them if they could.

The Commies are not like The Hitler.
They both claim(ed) to be Socialists, but are/where mainly Nationalists.

The old joke is that when they found the bodies of Hitler and Eva Braun in the bunker he had a sign on his chest that said, “I was never a Nazi”
Hard to find anybody in Germany that claimed to be in 1945, but plenty in 1940.

As for the majority of Chinese they are more interested in getting rich than in politics. That is different from before, when most Chinese was mainly occupied with filling their stomachs every day. (“Have you eaten?” is still a common greeting, although now rhetorical, like; “how are you?”)

As long as the “Commies” bring higher living standard every year, they are popular among the majority of Han Chinese.

Young people are mainly interested in having a comfortable life, good jobs, eating at McDonald’s and KFC and texting on the latest iPhone.
They also like to travel abroad as tourists, mainly in Asia and other countries that welcome them.
They are fairly nationalistic and proud of the way China has developed in the last 30-40 years.

The Financial Times is a good source of news.

Yes, especially business news, but also their general news and opinion pieces.
For specific news from/on China “South China Morning Post” is a good source, as is CNA.

I’m also partial to Aljazeera English for news on Asia in general.
PS> Lots of former BBC reporters there.

This probably went under the radar in western media since a lot of other things happened on the same day:

47 of the activist charged has now been charge in court:

No it doesn’t amount to genocide.

What’s the chances that the HongKong Museum of History in Tsim Sha Tsui will be closed for “renovation “ in a couple of weeks time.
