Twic renewal

Renewed my TWIX ha ha last week, had it in the mail in less than a week. Just a heads up to those renewing that it shouldn’t take MONTHS.

Same here. Did it last month. In my mailbox a week after renewing. Also I lived two hours to the closest center. They now opened one up in my city in a mailbox etc store

Well, I am jumping the gun and starting the process five months before my twic expires.

I already did the three year, so I am under the impression I have to go with the five year. I have an appointment for my new picture in january. Will I require a second visit to pick up the card a week or two after the first appointment or will the new card come in the mail?

mail, I had mine within a few days.

It takes months for someone to answer the phone at the TWIC offices. I spent an hour on hold total with 2 offices. I gave up and drove 25 miles to the office. Walked in, paid the fee and was finished up and out the door in 15 minutes. No appointment. Had my card in the mail in 5 days and PIN in 7.

I enrolled online and made an appointment for on my time off. The online enrollment was painless.

I’ll do that after my January hitch. I am renewing this year and that’s going to be step 1. Glad it’s no longer a PITA.

I called 800 number on Friday 12-18 and was on hold maybe 5 mins. Made an appt for this last Monday 12-21. Drove to the place 20 mins on the other side of town did finger prints and photo. I was door to door in maybe 20 mins total. My new TWIX was in the mailbox yesterday.

I’ll be doing mine very soon as well… Glad to know it dosent take forever anymore…

Same questions I had. Mine is due in April, i am doing it when I get home in Jan. I am pretty sure you have to go pick it up. Doing the ‘over the phone’ 3-year renewal only requires one office visit, from what i remember from 3 years ago.

According to their website, you’re only allowed to do the 3-year renewal once. I am also 90% sure they tack your 5 (or 3) years onto the later renewal date instead of ‘starting the clock’ all over again from the date you renew.

Trying to wrap my head around what you are saying…mine expires in may and I did the three year last time. So you are saying I’m only getting two years instead of five when I renew?

Incorrect. You have to appear in person to renew but can choose to have them mail your new card directly to your house so you don’t have to go to their office a second time.

Incorrect. The five years starts from when you renew, not when your old TWIC was set to expire. Therefore, if you renew 4 months early you lose 4 months.

This is correct I renewed almost three months early and lost that time. He may be getting it confused with his MMC. When you renew early the clock starts when the old one expires. My last renewal had the office freaking out that I had predated documents. There contention was my MMC wasn’t good until the new issue date which was 3 months down the road. We had to conference call the NMC to get it cleared up. They weren’t gonna let me work until it was straight.

I thought you were supposed to sail on your old MMC until it expired, at which point your new one takes over.

This is correct. Mine expired in December of this year but since I was going to be out to sea I renewed in September. Now my renewal is September 2020 so yes I lost a few months. I wouldn’t do it any earlier than 30 days unless you won’t be home.
Also, only one visit is now required. Pay the money, do the prints and photo. They send it to you house about a week or so later

That was what the office had me do. The CG lady on the phone was like its no big deal. The MSO’s were aware the docs are good even though they were predated. It was one of the first ones issues like that the company had seen. They wanted clarification.

The TWIC is still a 100% waste of time that does nothing more than line the pockets of LockMart and whichever politician(s) helped push it through. I have had my card scanned a total of 1 time, ever, and that was at the old Charleston Navy Yard docks earlier this month.

As long as you don’t work on a vessel with a VSP, or need unescorted access , You don need no stinking TWIC! My first hint that TWIC was BS was when they wouldn’t accept it at the REC…

How bout the first time you handed it to the TSA agent at the airport and he didn’t even know what it was?

I used mine to scrape the ice from my wind shield a few days ago.
