WASHINGTON — “The Pentagon plans to announce the repeal of its ban on transgender service members July 1, a controversial decision that would end nearly a year of internal wrangling among the services on how to allow those troops to serve openly, according to Defense officials.”
Can the Navy and the Merchant Marine be far behind?

I think I am getting seasick.
Can we get a grassroots movement to ‘vote out’ PC DC members?
Oh yeah, I forgot. It’s called elections. Hopefully enough of us will vote out the entire congress, Whitehouse and by appointment the Judicial as well. DC needs a complete housecleaning. This worry about PC is so BS it makes my wonder how anything ever gets done in DC. They spend so much time debating the esoteric they miss the large rock in the road.
Term Limits.

Isn’t the Navy included in the Pentagon’s decision?
It is a sick, sick world. You couldn’t get me into the social experiment that our armed forces have become for a million dollars.

I went back on the MSN website where I ran across that to post the entire article but they had already yanked it. What made me think the Army would be first is the following which is from a different report:
“The disclosure came the same week that the U.S. Army formally welcomed its new secretary, Eric Fanning, who became the first openly gay leader of a military service branch in U.S. history.”
To answer your question, this is the following paragraph, so you are correct:
“One of the U.S. officials said parts of the repeal would come into effect immediately. But the plan would also direct each branch of the armed services to implement new policies affecting everything from recruiting to housing for transgender troops, the official said.”
Tranny’s openly in the military? What could go wrong???
I’m all fine with gays but the whole tranny thing is freakin weird to me…
Roll Tide

The navy will probably remain in the locker forever but the merchant marine has for ages accepted whatever anyone wanted to call itself.
(excuse the un-PC attitude but if you can’t handle it ban me and pretend the world is a better place)
An APL radio operator comes to mind.

We’ve had transgender people in the Merchant Marine for some time now. My opinion is, to each their own as long as you can do the job.
Not sure how it will shake out in the service, but honestly? The percentage of such persons is so small that any impact- if there is any at all- would be negligible. IMHO.

Catherder is right. Back when I was doing some port engineer work there was a 1st A/E on one of the ships that would sometime come down to breakfast wearing a slip underneath his coveralls. I could have cared less. The only thing that concerned me was whether or not he was doing his job.

Yes it does…

I’ve only sailed once with a radio operator and he certainly was a prime candidate for the Wiggiest Sparky of the year award but that was MSC. I’d been forewarned about radio operators in general being a quirky bunch but this guy was in a league all by himself.
I’ve sailed with gays of both sexes who did their jobs and didn’t cause trouble and there was zero tension about it. Who cares about what people do behind closed doors. I’m sure everyone will get used to transgenders on crews, like or not at first, and after a while won’t care unless someone of any particular persuasion be it straight or gay or transgender starts demanding special treatment.
It’s a brave new world.

Why are we constantly being forced to “get used” to things that are wrong and disgusting?
They already are pushing for special rights and privileges.
Because this is what ‘globalization’ means to all around the world. Homogenization, purification and one world identity.
They already are pushing for special rights and privileges.
Yup. And until liberal lunacy is locked back up in its box it will only get worse.
The concept of special nomination and acceptance of the minutiae is the wrong redress for these issues. Over the last couple decades the litigious society has made strides towards making everyone the same, with demands for others to accept (or even adopt) differences in behavior and rationale.
It used to be that we were encouraged to excel using the power of our differences. Now we are being demanded to excel as one with no distinction allowed to be made because of our differences.
You Sir, have your head on right. I wish there were more of us.

While I have no particular desire defend Transgendered people, I am not sure what special rights and privileges of which you speak. Explain please. I do believe they should have the same rights and protections anyone else has under our system of laws.
Wrong and disgusting? I don’t know any trans people but it doesn’t matter to me what people do as long as they do their job. You’re an ass for calling them “wrong and disgusting”.
As a currently active Marine, I don’t honestly care about a persons sexual preference. We simply do not have time to give a damn. All I care about is their ability to perform and contribute to the mission at hand. That said, my concern is whether or not those using hormone therapy can still contribute to the mission when in the field, or in country, while at war. The docs have big enough combat load as it is, without having to lug around spare medication, and the Marines will sometimes not have access to all their gear when detached from the main bodies. Oftentimes, its “grab your shit and go”, and you throw on your flak and kevlar, and hopefully remembering to re-sling your weapon before donning your daypack (that’ll get beat around to the equivalent of surviving a car crash).
