It is so sad so effing sad that I was so stupid believing this guy will deliver on his promise although not my president and not my Country .
But what A COUNTRY IT ONCE WAS !!! and in my lifetime it was.
I listened some time ago to this Russian spokeswoman Zakharova or whatever name she has and she was interviewed by some US social media personalities in Moscow .
And it looks she was fooled too . I listened to her talking about D.T. and I could not believe my ears that ruskie can be so incredibly stupid to think and believe that he wants peace and wants to change things for better. I think lots of ppl were fooled. Only some kind of very weird genius can fool ppl like that. I am sorry.
If a user on here has their account banned or blocked by admin, shoudn’t all of their accounts be banned or blocked by admin? This thread is about ramifications right?
I’m absolutely NOT a fan of NATO. I don’t support the bombing of Iran without Congress’s consent. So I don’t blame other countries for not allowing us to use their bases. But if Iran some how foolhardily lands a bomb on US soil or does a terrorist attack in the US, then any reservation they have should be put aside. I’ve supported my wife, captains, chief engineers, my employer, my former unions & my parents when I thought they wrong because of the commitment I have/had to them. Article 5 turning into an optional pick & choose agreement would be the nail in the coffin of NATO in my opinion.
Has anybody on this forum criticised the rescue operation Whizzo?
Or the soldiers, airmen, mariners, or any servicemen participating in the action “on the ground”?
When it comes to the ones that send them there, that is quite another case.
You are wasting your time . You may be a professor or PhD in geopolitics and deliver a peer reviewed doctorate rebuttal and all this will fall off like the water from a duck’s back.
The targets of your deliberations and argumentation are diagnosable cases of cognitive dissonance, mixed with acute narcissistic syndromme laced with megallomania and acquired directly from God sense of privilege and of entitlement .
No guile, no subtext, no sarcasm, just pleased that he does not have to suffer the same torture and humiliation that John Peters and John Nichol had to go through at the hands of savages in 1991.
So if Turkey started a war without any other NATO support and the country they attacked eventually fought back, ALL of NATO is supposed to swoop in and save Turkey? I’m not sure it works like that.
Article 5 specifically references self defence in regards to an attack.
If a NATO country decides to go around the world starting wars with everyone they can’t expect all of NATO to help defend them when there’s blowback or retaliation from these conflicts that they themselves started.
By attacking Iran, the U.S. is not defending itself, any more than it was defending itself when it attacked Iraq. Pre-emptive attacks are not defence.
Notice the only time Article 5 was put into practice was after 9/11, to help defend the U.S. due to an unprovoked attack.
Also notice the Falklands War did NOT trigger Article 5, though the U.S. did eventually choose to support UK.
I was sure that pilot was captured, dead & was going to kill himself to avoid capture. That guy surviving in a modern, populated country like Iran, then escaping is amazing. Iran showed hundreds, maybe over a thousand people searching & he still escaped!?! The kidnapping of Venezuelas president & rescuing of that pilot are some Jason Bourne, alien technology spooky shit. How in the hell did they do that?
Turkey really? The same Turkey that pays less than 2% towards NATO’s defense goals with a 3rd world, unproven fighting force? I don’t think I will persuade you nor any other NATO supporting forum member here but if Iran knocks down our tallest bridge or pulls off a 3k dead 9-11 terrorist attack and Spain stays on their “can’t use our bases” high-horse then the US & Spain ain’t going to be friends no more. If a horrible situation like that occured, even some Democrats in Congress would be forced to demand regime change in Iran. If 60% of the the US supported regime change in Iran & we had to do it alone, then NATO would become kaput. No more European Military welfare from the US of A.
I think we would all LOVE regime change in Iran, but then we already did that once when we helped install the Shah. Lasted for a little while, but monarchy is fickle, and ignoring your constituents is a bad look for just about any government, even when you have the backing of the US and the UK due to your oil.
Perhaps if we had left Iran alone all these years and not installed the Shah and not backed Saddam Hussein against Iran and not defended Israel regardless of how much they expanded or how many Palestinians they killed, Iran wouldn’t hate us quite so much.
When I have a neighbor on the block I don’t get along with, I generally leave them alone and they typically do the same to me. I hope they move out eventually, but I don’t sabotage their house to try and get them to move when I want, and I certainly don’t threaten to burn down their house, or actually do it in a manner that results in the death of their children.
If we could flip a switch and peacefully and instantly create regime change in Iran in a stable, just, and democratic manner without spending too much treasure or losing too many of our troops, or killing too many Iranian school girls I’d be for it. But we can’t. International relations are hard and slow and require negotiation and smarts and compromise. Unfortunately the most powerful nation the world has ever known, right now has the least insightful, flexible, savy leadership it has had in a very long time and it’s apparently easier to bluster, threaten, and utilize actual violence then to follow the long and difficult road of international cooperation and negotiation.
I agreed with everything you said except the comment quoted above. Iran was none of our business but I often remember their president smirking to a CNN reporter claiming gay people don’t exist in Iran & if she knew any, she should tell him. The religious zealot leadership of Iran has always thought of the Israelis, Americans & gay people the same. We shouldn’t exist. Their religion & supreme leaders give their followers permission to hate & murder without consequence. We didn’t have to bomb Iran but we don’t have to forsake Israel, gay people & women’s rights to appease Iran either.
Once upon a time we had a government that said certain humans could be kept as slaves and sold as property. A number of our most “pious” and religious “Christians” of the day felt the same. No one invaded our Nation to change our minds or bombed us to force us to be enlightened. It took the bloodiest war in our Nation’s history with a conflict that killed more Americans than any other, for one half of our Nation to convince the other half that we would remain a single republic in which slavery wasn’t going to be okay anymore, and yet we still got Jim Crow.
I’d hate to see Iran go through that same sort of bloodshed, but bombing them and their children is not going to win them to our side. Look at Afghanistan and Iraq. How many countries in that part of the world do we really need to attempt to “fix” through force and violence? How many countries can we even afford to “fix” given the blood and treasure such methods cost? Perhaps we should make sure we can get it right just once, before we keep moving on to the next one, only to fail again.
And I never advocated for forsaking Israel. We should however be honest, as we would with a true friend, when they make bad choices and choose paths that lead to escalation and further bloodshed. Israel is a small yet prosperous nation, and yet we have given more military aid to them free of charge, than any nation has given any other nation in the history of the world.
If we are going to give a wealthy nation free weapons, we shouldn’t feel guilty when we speak up regarding how those weapons are being used.
Thank You Sir. Difficult word. Checked in dictionary . Never heard such a name existed. Think such forum is a perfect place to learn interesting words .
