I apologize for my typing over the last few days but it seems that an iPad in bed with the flue doesn’t cut it.
There has been a lot of talk on other posts about reviving the US Merchant Marine. There is over 100 US mariners and 5 ships stuck in the Persian Gulf, Mariners who have paid their taxes, a fair chunk going towards that great big beautiful navy that was first raised in 1794 to protect them.
We have heard nothing from them, my guess is they were boarded by US armed forces and are now without cellphones.
This one of the unintended ramifications, but if they, God forbidding come, to any harm, there will be no president there to offer phony sympathy.

For the record I was educated by the Navy following the same syllabus as the Admiral above obviously lacking in his intellect but I’m probably better at setting up a tow of a rig. He was invited to be Governor General of Australia but turned it down on health reasons. I was also at sea at a time of dead mans shoes and it was a number of years as mate of tankers, bulk carriers, general cargo and reefers all within the same company. I spent 6 months in head office of the company before promotion to master. I possessed a Master unlimited since my time as second mate.

It will definitely strengthen it if they are allowed to take over an international shipping lane, shoot missiles at ships in international waters, and shoot missiles at their neighbors with impunity.
I get it that ‘allies’ are pissed off at Trump for not forming a coalition prior to starting this. But let’s not get it twisted…the entity responsible for cutting off 20% of the global oil supply and 17% of Qatar 's LNG supply is Iran. This concept of ‘we’ll allow SOH passage and won’t shoot missiles at our neighbors as long as we can pursue nuclear weapons and continue funding multiple terrorist proxies’ is blatant extortion and utterly unacceptable.
This dynamic isn’t new. Other US administrations chose to face this with ‘don’t’ or planeloads of cash, aka kicking the can down the road. Well, this administration said enough is enough. Was the execution ideal? Absolutely not. But we are where we are. How this proceeds is TBD.
Regarding your ‘toothpick’ edit, yes, if they are allowed to be SOH gatekeepers, that is a good analogy .

This entire situation is down to one individual…….had he proposed a coalition prior, it would not have eventuated.
A couple of recent statements by this individual if I may……

Prior to Trump’s un sanctioned action, the SOH was open……now it is closed. The USA taxpayer is spending $2b/day and the Israelis are spending $300m/day.

I know you asked Hawespiper but I wanted to add this to the conversation. First, I’m against the bombing of Iran. I never believed Trump had done anything impeachable until this. Too bad his opponents turned that critical mechanism of our republic into such a partisan joke that now it’s meaningless. That being being said, I felt bad for the millions of Iranian protesters from December & January, especially for the tens of thousands murdered according to the same global media that now condemns Trump. I wish we could have done something then to tip the balance. Perhaps my unspoken wish has come true or will come true eventually? Definitely the bombing has strengthened the resolve of the Iranian regime that went on a mass murdering spree of freedom protesters. But we have yet to see if this unjust war will strengthen or weaken the resolve of the tens of millions Iranians who wanted change in December & January?

Friend, the Republicans control both the House and the Senate. If they wanted him impeached it could happen next week, and more importantly he could be removed–a separate thing. But his party is 100% behind him, so don’t blame anyone else but them.
Not everybody is as hang up in race, colour of the skin, or religion to the same degree as you appear to be.
In Norway we don’t “colour code” people, we judge them by their personality, contribution to society, not by their origin.
If anybody, regardless of who they are and where the come from are treated equally. If the break the law they are delt with the same, but humanly.
