I believe ‘piracy’ is defined as being perpetrated by private parties.

Why would their press office cook up that mouthful? How is the type of weapon brandished relevant? And why call it a submachine gun when it’s not? I know this is absolute pedantry, but WHY?!

I think in this country AK47 tends to be a sort of code word with heavy loadings of “evil scary gun carried by evil scary people”.

However usually it would be phrased as “AK47 assault rifles” to invoke more loadings of fear. Submachine guns as a class don’t seem to have the same cachet.
