Is there am stcw equivalent of the us sail endorsement? Is there any requirement for a sail endorsement if working overseas?
Wondering about time on sqare-rigger (over 100 gt) in 1978. Would that still be usable for getting STCW sail endorsement (if there is such a thing)
It should allow you to get a US sail endorsement still. Sea time never expires and as far as I know there is no recency requirement.

The US is one of the very few countries that still has a sail endorsement or requirement. There is no STCW sail endorsement.
A captain with absolutely no sail experience can legally skipper sailing vessels of any size under most flags.

It does seem strange that. Why do you reckon that is?
Do you think someone with no sail experience would go off and drive a square rigger?
Genuinely curious.
