Are any JA LNG ships on the drawing board or being built?
Newport News shipyard built the last batch in the 70s I believe.

Exmar now Excellerate. No upward movement so most USA guys say fuck it.
No fucking way an LNG tanker could be built in the USA today. Even if it somehow was physciall/skill wise possible, the damn ship would cost over a billion dollars. Just look at the Matson ships that are 250-300mil a piece for a korean kia that is really a 50mil ship?!?
The best idea would be to update the old USA build ships. They were surely built better than korean shit today anyway. But I imagine most have been scrapped etc. Also, this kind of stuff takes thinking ahead and planning (Elon Musk style), and shipping companies are full of the biggest dumbfucks of any industry, so that will never happen.
maybe a new thread on the LNG ships? seems an interesting topic
You’re probably not far off. I think even the Korean build LNG carriers are north of $250mil now, so triple that at least.
An LNG tank on the back of a container ship is a far cry from a LNG tanker. Is Philly Ship even building the tanks for the new Matson ships or are those coming from Hanwa?
