Riddle me this

DredgeBoy got some new throttles to jockey, bigger ones. While checking out the boat I found about a three foot piece of 3/4" transport chain with a heaving line tied to it on top of the wheelhouse… The engineer said it was an “Orlof indicator”. Any one dare to guess? (Hint, the boat had been offshore)

Yeah works great until the captain sounds the general alarm at 1am because the bbq blew over and he thought the tow was running away.

ROTDL. Rolling on the deck laughing. Or worse, some green deckhand makes off the Orlof indicator to the BBQ…
