Renewal/Extension of TWIC

Just to be sure, I CAN can make an appointment and go to a TWIC office and do the extension there? Mine expires at the end of april and I dont want to get screwed by govt inefficiency.

Make your appointment online then go to the office. Took about 2- weeks for them to process mine in August.

Made my extension request over the phone in early January, and within two weeks got an email that my new card was waiting for me at the TWIC office. The quick turn around was a pleasant surprise.

It came with a hard plastic case about 1/4" thick that you are told to store the card in to protect it. :-0

I just waited on the phone for an hour. Ill just make an appointment and take care of it. I really have a c.captain like hatred for the TWIC card, its the most useless thing I have ever been forced to get.

Call them immediately at the time they open. That worked for me after waiting on hold way too long the day before.

Ill have to wait until I get off. I have the night watch.

Called & got the card, got the email it was ready, showed up @ the office @ 0900 & picked it up. Argued with a trucker who was too stupid to read the rules while i was getting my card read.

I called the help line when it opened at 0800 1 hour 40 minutes and $60 later I have the honor of expecting an e-mail from them to go pick up my EED TWIC. Boy I feel so much safer now.

(insert c.captain like rant here)

At my twic office I noticed there was a third option. There was the standard 5 year, the 3 year extension, and “if you have another document like an MMC” you can get a twic that expires the same time as the other document. I want to say it was about $20 less than the standard 5 year card. Unfortunately I didn’t see the little sign on the wall until after I had gone through the whole process and paid to get the standard 5 year card.

I just spent 1 hour 52 minutes waiting for a person to anwser and talked to them a total of 12 minutes. I got my EED TWIC and will be called in 5-10 days to pick it up. I’m glad I’m on a boat that the old man is cool and let me study lapware while I waited!!! I wish they would just call it good with getting an MMC. My 2 cents.

Just Saying, …Great Service from Tampa TWIC office.
Got a call from my union hall, "Hey Capt Dumb Ass, you’re TWIC card expired a couple of days ago. Have you renewed it?"
Of course not, the most worthless card in my meager set of credentials, but you must have it to work.
I was on time off and immediately drove to the Tampa TWIC center. Got their late afternoon, Tuesday February 19th without appointment.
I had to wait only a few minutes, the staff was friendly and professional. While I waited for my turn I listened to ILS members bitch about how hard they had it and how easy fat boat people have it. Made sure they saw my Merchant Mariners Credentials as I was ushered in for five minute interview. 9 days later I received my email notification that credentials were ready to be be picked up. Again, no appointment, arrived at the Tampa TWIC office on a late Friday afternoon. Complete professionalism from staff. No hassle and beat the Friday rush hour traffic going home. TWIC sucks but Tampa office is client centered and delivered.
