Recommended Books on Leadership or Management
I can strongly recommend “It’s Your Ship” by Captain Michael Abrashoff.
Forgot about that one. Very good book.

Machiavelli “The Prince” as he said “It is better to be feared than loved”

A book that’s good to keep as a reference is Managing the Unexpected by Weick and Sutcliffe.

I like military history and I though The Roots of Blitzkrieg was intresting. It about changing the culture of the German Army during the interwar years. I got there by way of the book the Mind of War which is about Col John Boyd who had a role the development of the F-16 and maneuver warfare among other things. At sea the some of the same concepts with For God and Glory about Lord Nelson.

Leading at the Edge, by Dr. Dennis Perkins.

Thanks for the positive comments about this book, as one of the course instructors and the course creator at NMI, we wanted a text book that a mariner could relate too, and meet the IMO model course requirments for subject matter on Leadership. Most importantly, we needed to keep you all interested in the subject for the required 5 day course,
