Qmed Oiler Course & Hiring Question

Hi, I’m sort of in a pickle here. I have the time QMED Oiler. I took the test and failed the three attempts (I took part 1 twice without proper studying). I have the opportunity to test again in October, but I’m going to spend the money and take the course. Would I still need to wait the 90 days?

Also, what companies are hiring QMEDs?
Thank you.

Good question. Does the test on the last day of the course meet the testing requirements? May be a good question to ask whichever school you are looking at if you haven’t already. I would suspect if you got the course done soon and submitted the certificate before your deadline on your current application you’d be fine…worth a shot asking the NMC and/or sending an email to your evaluator maybe.

All the OSV operators need qmeds and qmeds are making more than ABs usually. You need rfpew and able seafarer engine along with basic training however, generally speaking.

I hear the deep sea unions such as SIU, MFOW and SUP need qmeds, but for ships you will definately need those int’l endorsements i mentioned above, I may be wrong.

Some tug companies will be happy to have a qmed in the sole engineer role too.

Thank you, I’m awaiting email responses to see what they say. Once I complete the class I’ll apply to every single one.
